RR Evoque anyone?

My boss has got an X3. They aren't my cup of tea but have been a roaring success. He had to wait about 8 months for his.

As for the 5 tourer have you considered the 5GT?. Can look good in certain colours and a early new one is a steal, especially with the kit they normally have. I also would go for the panoramic roof in either as a reminder of open top motoring. It's one hing that is a disappointment with th Evoque as the huge glass roof is fixed.
curious as to how you would articulate the pano roof, Pace? the good news is it doesn't really need to as the air con is so damned efficient 8)
I certainly don't want to dismiss your purchase pacemaker its just how I felt about it. It's a lovely car and one thing that sets it apart is the level of luxury it really is a step above. But for me it wasn't special enough to take me away from what I have.

The only way the Evoque is different is that it is the only 4x4 SUV type thing so far that isn't either a) hideously ugly or b) a bland box on wheels. That said, its rear end is still pig ugly, but it is rescued by the side profile and front which look great.
I agree with Maniac - I think i'd prefer a 3 or 5-series touring with x-drive, an E-Class estate or I'll whisper this, an A6 Avant. A bit more understated and a lot less bling.

the wife wanted shot of the Zed which i still loved and the deal was a silly one to turn down tbh even if decided to buy the same again.
I did agree however on the grounds i could have something different which i believe the Zed is. it made me feel i was in something special every time i was in it.
i did fancy a change and had never had an SUV and there is no denying the Evoque is different to any other SUV out there. and being in it gave me the same feeling of specialness the Zed has.
really didnt fancy a new saloon like the new 3 series and the 5 is too big. mercs c class is looking tired and a new one is imminent. never really like Audis saloons and believe they are over hyped.
that left the X3 which i did like up to the test drive
the q3 looks a bit skinny and in top spec is too dear ( more than a Q5)
and the Q5 which i failed to get a demo in but it too is old in the teeth now
X1 again is too expensive when speced to evoque standards, same as an X3 and looses money hand over fist plus has questionable looks
agree on the Evoques back end but the rest makes up for it
money no option i would have a new Porsche Cayenne and a Boxster
not dissing the Zed here and if i had had your power Maniac it might have been a different story but i was starting to get a bit disappointed with the lack of power in the end for the car and the auto box. wish i had got the manual tbh or the DSG

Just got back from a 7 day trip around Cornwall. Fantastic weather and the Evoque never missed a beat all week. Very comfortable drive and it took us places I wouldn't have dared go in the Z4 two years ago on our last trip to Cornwall!
Still very impressed with it. Covered 946 miles in total and averaged just under 38 MPG. 8)

z4 faults in 5 years and less than 20k miles
clutch failed at 5k
oil gasket failed at 6k
roof motor failed at 11k
roof motor failed again at 17k
DSC unit failed at 18k
none of those items could be considered service items for the mileage and i wouldnt describe the car as bombproof
my 2002 v8 disco, 35k miles and 7 years' family service....
ignition key stuck in the lock £50
ABS ECU needed rewriting £200
Window winder mechanism needed a weld £30
they are the non service items
I am sure that I have a disco that is against the trend and thats also possible for the z4, but i think LR may be sorting out some of their reliability gremlins.
I will just wait for the engine to fall out and the electrics all to decide never to work again now that i have jinxed it ...
I bought into a premium brand. I've had more issues than any other car ive owned.
It's completely 'luck of the draw' as I really don't feel there is that much build quality difference between all but the budget car brands. Sure you get fancy gadgets and shiny materials but underneath it seems the same old steel as anyone else.

to be fair to Breaker on this - the Freelander and Evoque factory at Haylewood has tended to have excellent reliability , it's been the full size LR/RR factories that have tended to let the side down -one reason for this is the level of complexity - there is a lot going on in a modern land rover.
