RPI scoop info

Think the scoop noise gave Bing aural (oral) pleasure when I drove behind him :D

Yup. Sounded dirty and nasty. I want one

Gruppe M do one for the 3.0 but it costs like £800 I think

Sush Bing, I want to keep the price down...

Nah, you're alright - the Gruppe M is a carbon fibre piece of art, not a steel box with an ice cream cone in it :D

Plus I did some searching and found one for £700

Who was it modified their M air box by cutting holes and then wrapping it in c/f laminate ? If you want more noise and nothing else then surely that's the way to go ?

PilchardTheCat IIRC

The holes in the airbox is a common TT mod, known as the Wak-box after one of the early modders. I did it on mine and it added a nice note to the induction.

It is quite funny :D .... but of course you don't leave the holes open - what you're doing is taking out bits of thick, rigid plastic and then covering the holes with thin, resonant c/f

Not in the TT mod. Swiss cheese...

Really - you left it open ? Did that not bugger up the airflow ?

I thought the point of having cf as a material was its density giving better resonance? I might be talking s**t? Did it work?

May be so, you're the engineer  - but it is a thinner material with better resonance than plastic. The thread is here - starts with a MAF screen mod, but a little further down he describes the air box modification :

Ah, ok - the airflow behind the filter is not interrupted, it is the inlet side he has modded. I wonder if that reduces the life of the filter any, as it will definitely pick up more crap and water... Or not ?

I turned my airbox on my Corsa into slight Swiss cheese behind the air filter. Sounded so deep. Loved it!

Would probably ruin the z4 though.
