RPI? Eisenmann? Remus?

Hey all :) not been on here in a while.

I've had to park the Supercharging project for a little bit on account of all the money going towards getting my new car in the contry, but still keeping the M as a daily for now and when the other car lands, it'l be tweaked as a sprint car :)

So I'm still looking to do little bits until I can throw on the blower, brakes and suspension etc.. But Aus being aus means that I've been looking for months and can't find an RPI.. Anywhere..

Anyone know where I can pick one up and get it posted in, or better still have one for sale?

Failing that, there are a lot of Remus, AC Schnitzer and Eisenmann exhausts on the market. I think I'm ruling out the ACS as I'm not a huge fan of the oval cut, but the Eisenmann and Remus don't look bad (albeit the sound isn't quite on?)

so yeah just wondering if anyone had tried the above and could comment on the RPI sound vs eisenmann and remus, and if anyone could poke me in the direction of an RPI supplier/one they've seen for sale I'd be a happy man!

Trying to get parts for a euro car in aus that was sold in v low volume = friggin' nightmare!!! :lol:

Ah cheers but their only delivery method quotes for $597!! Which considering the weight of them seems absolutely rediculous, a set of alloys can get to me for about the same!

A shame because the price of the unit direct isnt bad with the exchange rate what it is..


Next car is an 07 v10 viper srt-10, hopefully about 2 months away now! Toyed with a gallardo but the viper won my heart (and was cheaper) think the zed will be more able round a circuit when its done though
 
for the sound: you can find some youtube vids for the sound. If I could choose: RPI all the way!

But beware: it is really loud! :evil:
 
^+1. IMO RPI looks and sounds best of the lot. In addition, each can weighs only 8 lbs which make for a nice weight reduction vs. the 23 lb OEM cans. Problem is, I read this week on another forum that they're currently backordered and RPI isn't sure they're going to make any more. Some folks on the ZPost forum are trying to organize a group buy.

hehe loud = good! I love the rasp of the oem but it's quite angry enough! like how you poke a TVR and it growls at ya.

Weight saving is a plus :) damn thanks for that, won't look at purchasing through the website then! might pop onto Zpost and have a shufti - thanks. and yep the more I look at the RPI the more the porsche style pipes grow on me

Not thought of any of them to be honest! had a look around youtube but its just hard to get a good feel for what they really sound like! if anyone knows any other suggestions then fire away :) now I think about it, some Diablos popped up on ebay USA about a month ago. will have a look, anyone knows how they compare to the RPI on sound? it's the only one I've heard in person Cheeers.
 
I have Diablos on my car, and my ex girlfriend had them on her M coupe. One of my friends just got an M coupe and won't consider anything else after hearing me take off one time. Youtube doesn't do them justice.

Diablos have been known to drone, but this has never bothered me. If you're looking for RPI's, then this isn't an issue since the RPI's are much worse. IMHO, the Diablos are 75% of the volume of the RPI's with a much better sound.

An exhaust will either make sound down low, or it won't. The Diablos sound ballsy and bassy down low, and the side effect is drone. To have a drone-free exhaust, you won't get a meaty sound until the rpm is up. Resonance occurs 1.5k-2.5k rpm, with it loudest around 2k rpm. Other exhausts resonate at different frequencies.

The perfect compliment to the Diablos is an aftermarket intake, like the AFE or Gruppe M. The Diablos are like adding a large subwoofer to the sound of the car, whereas the intake is more midrange. Together they are :lol: :rofl: 8)
 
I guess the target is to get an exhaust that's LOUD above 4krpm, sounds deep and throaty in lower RPM but doesn't drone on the motorway at 60-90 cruising - you wana drive on the motorway in luxurious silence to the alps and then hoon it around mountains making as much noise as you can!

Has anyone accomplished this? :D

Also this vid is great. I guess it's always hard to tell without hearing in person - suspect when my z4mc finally gets purchased i'll wait for a forum meet or two to make a decision.

Are the noise levels quotes min/max durnig that video sample, or actual manufacturer figures? Or is it like, Idle vs max volume - in which case i guess the ideal level for me might bea slight raise on the standard volume and a larger jump to max volume?
 
They were recorded at that event with a sound level meter at the same conditions for each car. Plenty of thought went into that test.

What exhaust is this? I did a quick search for KS performance but didn't find anything. It sounds bloody fantastic :thumbsup:
 
IMO, this video provides the most accurate reproduction of the RPI look and sound on the internet. Nice and low, very loud and no rasp. Love it!!!

Much more affordable is this: a custom made guerilla exhaust bypass valve (Holland): 999 euro for a six-cylinder, including install, or 399 euro for a 4-cylinder...

hah - these last 3 vids are great! I heard each one and wanted it.. would the magnaflow work on an M though?

The RPI is LOUD and awesome - id rather it matched the OEM rear twinpipes, though does it suffer drone issues on the motorway?

Listening to the custom guerilla one with decent headphones made me grin :D Would be keen to hear more of that, especially a z4m example!
 
There's some drone with the RPIs, but it's not nearly as bad as I was led to believe it might be by comments I read on this forum. And anyway it's only a factor when the windows are up, which they rarely are here in AZ. My car is not a daily driver, so it doesn't bother me at all. As for appearance, once you have those gorgeous, gem-like RPI tips on your car, everything else looks boring and pedestrian by comparison.
