Royal Steering Wheels...

Just had my steering wheel refurbed by Jack @ Royal Steering Wheels. Went for a thicker padding and perforated leather/plain nappa mix with red stitching. I also repaired the spoke covers in matte black - previous owner was a lover of jewellery based on the number of scratches and gouges in both the leather and the spokes.

The difference is great - far more comfortable, and the quality of the leather work by Jack is fantastic. Well happy with the results.

Oh, and just waiting on the gear knob as am getting the zhp recovered in the same leather and contrasting red stitching :)

Brilliant that's just how I want mine perforated east and west plain north and South but with black stitching.

Can I be nosey and ask how much and how long were you without your SW ?

Thank you and Happy New Year.

Looks nice but you've lost the rhombs on the centre spoke. Didn't you want them or can't they replicate them?

They can't replace the leather Perry, and it was badly damaged (it is too thin). I removed the leather myself - carefully as it can rip - and went for a plain matte black effect (did that part myself). I actually prefer it, but have kept the leather with rhombs just in case I want to go back that route.

Wasn't without a wheel, Grumpy. They provided a replacement wheel, and turnaround was only a week.

Ah, if that section can't be replaced, I guess that means I'll have to be extra careful not to damage mine - cheers Mark

The wheel cost £110 for covering, a £100 deposit for the loan of the wheel (refunded on the wheels return), gear knob is £20. Bargain :)

It a common problem on Alpina wheels apparently. If I find anyone who can do the thin leather coverings, I'll let you know :)

I'm really impressed with the fact that you can still get quality work like this done at reasonable cost - brilliant!

Useful post!

While the wheel was being re-covered I refurb the buttons, I used fine wire wool to rub the paint off, took ages! Then sprayed them with plastic primer and satin black, they look brand new!!

I'll second the recommendation for Royal Steering Wheels.. I had my MINI steering wheel retrimmed to JCW spec with red stitching. Much cheaper than buying new and leather is nice and soft! I was very pleased! This:
