Route & roads for 1st roadtrip Scotland 17th May

Fort William Travelodge. :D

Leaving in the morning for Applecross, up through Gairloch and Poolewe and on to Ullapool. I've found there's a fair bit of traffic compared to when I was up 3 weeks ago (tourist season started I guess), so debating whether to set off early for a clear run.

DId a few laps of the Lochleven "ring" earlier, would have been good to have some company!

Derwent manor is a nice place that's were I had my wedding reception just over a year ago.
Me Paulgs1000 and cherrym often head over that way, round derwent reservoir some nice roads and great scenery

Steady drive up from Lancs yesterday .
300 miles / 5 hours
Weather was wet & very windy for the most part but sun came out as we left the A9 ( a complete drag at 50mph due to average speed cameras throughout  )
The bridge in pic we can see fom bedroom window & can recommend highly http://www.theinnonthetay.co.uk/the-rooms/ for facilties & location directly on the river

Enjoy the Old Military Road tomorrow - I would suggest stopping at the Station at Ballater for some food - been there with Swifty and co on a forum run.... but it burnt down last week

Royal Lochnager distillery is worth a visit and is just next to Balmoral :driving: :driving: have a good one

A truly ///Memorable 130 miles from Pitlochry to Findhorn . Wish i could do it all again tomorrow :driving:
The climb up towards Glenshee & the ski station leaves you slightly anxious as the clouds close in & is noticeably colder when you get out of the car

After around 45miles you drop into Braemar which is totally serence & almost like a Alps village .

A coffee & cake stop

The road away from Braemar to Balmoral along the river through the trees is stunning . Sweeping bends & long straights 70/80mph with very little traffic about .

Once away from Balmoral the road climbs again into a landscape best decribed as vast ,

I can't see any Z owner being disappointed up there , it was a great 3hours behind the wheel .

Now in the Hope & anchor Findhorn with a great view from our room

Approx 500 yards from my Mother in Law's house

Regularly on the road between Banchory (Aberdeen) and there :).

Enjoy Findhorn - you should be able to spot some dolphins if you are lucky :D

ps - careful with the drinking - the drink drive rules are tougher up here !

Yea its always a concern but i won't be needing to drink & drive , , the 2 pubs are approx 30yrds apart & we're staying in one of them

Great pics Mr Wilks.. you may well have made up my mind as to where to go on a driving trip this summer! Wheels look awesome too

Another great day behind the wheel , in all honesty as enjoyable as yesterday if i ignore the roadworks & traffic jam around Fort William
For those who have never been this was as good a drive as yesterdays Cairngorm's although more traffic , this only added to the drive as it gave many opportunity's to drop a gear & listen to the engine working its magic :driving:
After leaving behind Inverness it was a drive along Lochness in the sunshine

Glencoe was the highlight for me today , , hard to get a grasp of the landscape from pics but it was supersize in every way & when you got out of the car had a chilling atmosphere , far from welcoming  i really enjoyed it , mrs w not so much :?
