i have a e85 roadster and recently installed a new roof motor. the roof unlocks but wont open. i have a cvm (covertible-top module)code- 12 control button short circuit when opening. any-one got any ideas on this please.

Does it partly open, or not at all? Sometimes one of the wires in the loom that runs over the passenger window can break.

thanks for the reply it unlocks then nothing. but today it opened slightly but now nothing. could it be the open/shut buttons. the code 12 control button short circuit when opening. came up on diagnostics

As Zedebee says, one of the wires running inside the roof could have broken meaning the roof control module doesn't know where the roof is. It's becoming a more common issue on our older roadsters.
One of the resident experts will be along soon & guide you in the right direction  .

Did it work at all after you fitted the new motor? Not missed a connection or something?
Was it this issue that made you swap the motor?
Would be quite a coincidence for something to fail when you swap the motor, so maybe you disturbed something?

My loom broke by the passenger window after half lowering the roof one time. Had to cut through the mesh sheath to see the snapped cable, then solder it back together with a new length of wire in-between.

Today it opened about 2 inches so I nudged it back to open. So I ran it half way up and down a few times then shut it. Tried to open again now nothing. Could it be the open/shut switch?.

Mate that sounds like the issue I had- which was a micro break in the loom running from the motor up the passenger side to the roof top where the unlatch mechs are

I’ll send a link

Well the conclusion is the motor hydraulic unit is broken so if any one can sort me out with one I’d much appreciated many thanks.

The motor for the mini one is the same, but the pump part is different.

I am after one to “borrow” to try and prove a fault, but they are like rocking horse s**t

There’s a guy near me breaking 3 E85 Z4’s and the first thing gone off all of them was the roof motor/pump

I am looking for what seems a upgrade to the Bowden cable which sits on the side of the hydraulic unit for the roof. It looks like a piece of metal with a tee piece on one end and a hook on the other. Can anyone sort me out with one of these or tell me where I can purchase one from. Thanks

Item 7 in the picture I assume? If so just search the part no. on Google. Hope that helps  .
