Roof won't open..

I can't get my roof to open. It opened earlier. I press the buttons and nothing happens. No lights anywhere. I have checked the knobs in the back too.

Any ideas anyone?

Earlier I accidently pressed the open button and then pressed the close button really quickly after, not sure if i confused the system maybe?

i don't think so. I only just got the car so i've been messing around. do you think it's worth me disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery and reconnecting?

I take it nothing is happening at all, not even the windows dropping.

Nothing overly scientific about this, but...
1. I would check the knobs in the back again, turn them fully into the up position and drop back down again - incase it is the sensor / switch.
2. Try and operate the roof using the key in the drivers door - eliminate the switch panel as the fault.
3. To rule it out, I would also check the fuse.
4. If everything else is okay you may want to disconnect the battery to let the system reset - this can take about 15 - 20 minutes.

Unless you get very lucky I don't think any of the above will provide a cure. Good luck though!

Got to work today, tried the roof. ACTION. However, I am totally confused to why it works. I convinced myself it was because my temperature sensor was faulty (giving readings of -30!!) however now the sensor seems to have failed completely and is reading -40 all the time. Apparently the roof won't work if the outside temperature is below a certain threshold. Temp sensor has gotta be confusing the system. Anyway - will fit new sensor tonight.

to lower the roof from the key in the driver door do you just hold it to 'open' for a while? i didnt know it did this

Yep - and then the opposite for closing!

It's quite useful if it's been really hot and you want to let the car air or if someone's parked too close! But I'm not sure how big the drain is on the battery so I try not to do it too often. Wouldn't mind getting it setup on the key fob though!

yeah i know. it is cool but i think its about £40 to get you options done. i can find better stuff to spend that on :P like petrol :driving:

For reference - the problem was due to failure of my ambient temperature sensor, the sensor was £15 from BMW and took me about 5 mins to fit.

I didn't even know it had one of those and related to the roof - learn something new everyday if you're not careful :)
