Roof won't lock into place when opened

I replaced the roof motor on my Z4 recently and after refitting the soft top it will not lock in to place once fully open. The roof looks to be in the correct position and there is no gap when closed but it will not lock in place (even with a push). The sequence does not complete and the red button near the open button flashes red and the windows do nor go back up?

Any help is much needed and appreciated.

I would check the fuse for the electric locking motor at the front of the roof, check the simple things first.
Regards

Thanks smart bear, any idea what number the fuse it? Does the same fuse control the hooks when opening and closing as these work fine.

Hi there I have absolutely the same problem. Had a motor replaced last week and now hood does not lock properly and red light stays on. I too have checked the roof folds correctly which it does but same issue,
I would love to know which fuse it is to be checked if someone can help us out.
Thanks

hmmz.. I know this was a design issue BMW eventually "resolved" by removing the latch on the facelift versions..
I take it pushing down on the roof doesn't force it to "click" into place?

Nope no click, but what I have realised is the latch seems to be stuck backwards and is not returning to original position, it seems as if the latch is stuck and won't return back, i.e. when you push it inwards there there is no travel it is stuck at its furthest point! I presume it it suppose to be spring loaded to return back. Any suggestions?

Heres a photo of the latch.

what happens if you pull on the white cable in the boot firewall? (NOT the hydrolic cut-off bowden cable)
That's designed to disengage the latch for emergency closing, so it should operate it manually..
probably worth spraying some wd40 on the latch first to tempt it free if it's jammed, then if it does move, regreasing afterwards

The latch you mention is in the down/folded position, I read it that the problem lies in the roof up/unfolded position?
Which way is it failing?

looking at the pic, it looks to me that the latch is stuck in it's "latched" position (eg, it things it's latched onto the roof in the open position)
and thus, wont catch the roof.

pulling the boot cable should manually force it to open, but if that didn't work, then I'm guessing it's stuck closed.
At this point, I'd start taking bits of plastic off to get at the latch.. but I've done that enough times to be comfortable with it.
if you've never done it, it's quite a daunting task.. and probably not the "next step"..
