Roof won't go up except manually

Had a great drive around Alston way on Tuesday - a lovely sunny day, if a bit cold. Of course the top was down until, about an hour and a half from home I decided I was cold enough despite heated seat and car heater on full blast, to put the top up. But no - the little red warning light next to the roof buttons was flashing and nothing happened when I pressed either the up or down buttons. I didn't have an Allen key with me to manually raise the roof ( there's one living in the car now), so I had a less than pleasant drive home to Kendal! There was no motor noise, no switch noise, no noise at all. The windows worked ok using their separate switches.

I own the car jointly with my son. He's the one with some technical ability. We've booked it in to have the motor relocated and hopefully brought back to life. The guy at the garage, which I found through trawling through this great forum, in Bishop Aukland, is optimistic.

I'm just enquiring here as to whether or not there may be something else we should try before shelling out? I have tried the search function without success but apologies if this has been answered already. We appreciate that it's probably a good idea to have the motor relocated in any event, but it occurs to us that this might not solve our problem.

Thanks in advance

Pretty sure you'll get it fixed ok. Did it show any previous signs of labouring at all? Was there ever any condensation in the rear window or under the boot lid?
Chances are it's flooded due to the drains being blocked. If so I believe most can be revived. The worst part is actually moving it into the boot in the first place.
I did one a couple of weeks back and we had to source a good second-hand motor from the forum, but if it's Durham Dave doing yours then I suspect he'll have spares if indeed they're needed.
Only other issue I had was that the 40A maxi-fuse had blown, but that is an easy check. Once it's relocated it is simple to see if there's 12v to the motor.
Panic ye not! I'm confident it will be a relatively painless experience.

That's very reassuring - thanks for your rapid and v helpful reply! (No and no to your two queries)

You could just check the fuses.
Assume you know where they are behind the glove box?
Should be a list of them tucked in there too. There's a couple of small ones and the BFF Orange 40A one.

Could it be as simple as the rear parcel shelf microswitch not being pressed or dislodged ?

Possibly, if it has popped out somehow, but the roof was already down so surely a bit less likely?
Never rule anything out though!

Checked the fuses and the micro switch - no joy. The motor does whir now though when down button pressed, though the roof doesn't budge. There's some action from the windows at the same time but v limited movement.

We've got it booked in with Durham Dave on 7 April so fingers crossed - thanks again for the suggestions.

So the motor in the back whirs, but the front doesn't unlatch?
Hmmm, sounds a little odd then.
Dave will sort it I'm sure.
