Roof wont go down rattly rear shelf

Sorry if this has been covered however im new here

My roof worked fine up and down etc but this evening when i tried to put the roof down the down button lit up orange whilst the button was pressed but no noise or motor and no window drop either?

whats the rattly rear shelf all about please? do i need it? can it effect the roof working?

does this shelf positioning in any way effect the hood operation?

The rattly rear shelf thing in the boot needs to be in the lowered position, there's a small microswitch in the bulkhead that stops you putting the roof down if it is in the raised position, or something in the boot will stop it going all the way down.

Don't whatever you do force anything - see numerous posts on here about broken windows etc!

yep! Have a look at the shelf- either side s a control wheel/knob - twist one way for the shelf to raise and give more boot space - but roof wont go down twist other way and you are all fixed!

UPDATE

The rear shelf is in place and the centre guide piece is sitting firmly in the runner in the centre.

Both of the rear handles are in the down position and the shelf has dropped the inch or so required.

(In my fiddling around stage I completely removed the whole rear shelf and put it back in place however both ends have a hinged wing that flaps up and down and one side has come off completely)

AMBER LIGHT STILL SHOWING NO NOISE AND NO WINDOW DROP EITHER.

IF I PULLED/TWISTED THE RED HANDLE VERY SLIGHTLY EARLIER COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE?

sounds like your rear shelf may be broken as the hinges are what move it up and down. orange light indicates shelf issue

Had a better look in the day light today and the shelf was sitting at the bottom of the centre runner channel, and there appeared to be a notch about 1cm up and i put the shelf on the notch and hey presto all sorted..

glad im now aware the amber light means shelf fault - thanks

yes was just going to say the switch is at the back in the middle, the tray can sometimes pop out of the groove & even though it moves up & down it doesn't flick the switch.

this is happening every single day now, dont all laugh but can I glue this switch without any damage?

It wont damage anything, its normally closed circuit anyway, but it is a bit of a bodge. It also means you must remember to have the shelf in the lower position when you lower your roof else you "may" damage the roof mechanism £££££ ( I doubt it - but it is possible ).

New switches are only a few £, i'm not sure exactly what wrong with yours, but if you can fix it properly, it might save you in the long run ....

it will just be out of it's track .. if you're not moving the shelf regularly, slotting it back in correctly is what you really need to do..

but i remember when I had mine out I used tape to hold the switch shut & it worked fine.

I never touch the shelf apart from when the roof don't work. But within a few miles of non bumpy roads it occurs again. Very frustrating having an electric roof that you have to get out of the car and faff around in the boot with each time, may as well be a manual roof

Are you sure you put the four secring "Butterfly" clips back into the shelf that secure it to the hinges? It clips onto the hinges without them, but its a fairly losse fir and will come away without those four
