Roof wont close

Hello! The shelf seems to be in the way when I unscrew it (can get bottom screw OK). How do I remove it like in the picture? Do I need to take the shelf off, or manually pull roof down?

Aha, got the switch out, looks like the lever is missing:

So I'll go ahead and order a new microswitch from Sopers of Lincoln

Less than £20 delivered from Sopers of Lincoln.

In the meantime, anyone know if it's safe to tape the white button down to activate the switch permamently?

Similar problem, just drove home. Tried to close the roof and it stopped halfway. Had to use my hand to help it, opened it again fine, but then same again like its struggling. Red light flashes on the operate button. Any ideas I've not got a mechanical bone in my body so I'm crapping my pants.

Unlucky :( Worst time of the year to get roof problems. If it's moving at least half way though it's unlikely to be a sensor problem

If its operating slowly (or was before it stopped working altogether) then its likely the pump on its way out, lots of threads on here about it and what to do.

Hi Tommy,

not really safe..it depends on YOU, just make sure the parcell shelf is down otherwise it'll be crunch time, you are basically overiding a safefy mechanism.

It should make the roof work though which will be nice ! :D

Hi, it's one complete assy, electric pump with hydraulic pump, they can be seperated with allen key bolts .but I don't think they can be bought seperately !

Those pictures of the 'compartment floor switch' are mine. Dated 2009
To check the operation of the switch:

1. If the roof/hood is closed, manually open the roof. There are several threads on this and I will not go into it here.
2. With the roof open, push (I am going to assume a running car) the closed switch. If the roof closes, then the switch is bad or has lost it's lever arm.
If the roof does not close, something else is wrong.

The strongest possibility is the motor. The motor/hydraulic pump is a one-piece unit and cannot be purchased separately.
Next is that you could have a hydraulic leak and there is not enough fluid in the system. I am now seeing leaking hydraulic pistons and crushed hydraulic lines more often than before.
Somehow on of the four Hall-effect switches is faulty (not likely).
Softtop control module faulty (also not likely).

Was that for me sorry?

I just drove home. I dropped the roof, got home put it up and it stopped halfway. Red light flashing on the button. What do I do know?

Sorry I've not read the whole thread, but I had the same issue recently. Turns out I'd dislodged the parcel shelf when putting a load of shopping, as well as record decks and a mixer in the boot (bloody good boot in these cars!) I just gave the parcel shelf a wiggle to nudge the microswitch and it worked fine.

Hi Flashgordon,

maybe it just timed out, try switching off and trying again, otherwise close it manually with the red pull ring in the boot, and then follow Shipkillers guide for trouble shooting !!

Yellow light is for the parcel shelf so you can rule that out !

Woohooo roof works! And.... it's raining!

The part from sopers arrived in good time, one problem was the holding clip on the new one was assembled incorrectly! A bit fiddly to take it off and put it back on the right way round but got it done. In place securely now and roof is operating perfectly.

Thanks for all your help everyone!
