hi everyone, ive got a 2004 3.0 Z4 and about a week ago my roof decided to die a slow death. ive done hours of browsing the problem and have come to the conclusion that the motor has gone. the symptoms are the roof becoming slower and slower opening and closing which got to the point of it only disengaging from the windscreen and not moving any further. i was considering doing to the repair myslef from a resentment of paying BMW hourly rates but was wondering has anyone had an independant garage carry out the repair and at what cost? Also im struggling to find a supplir for tha part, is it only BMW who produce and sell the part?

hi just recently done this afraid parts only available from bmw i got mine from bmminiparts.com it costs £350 for the parts thats the hydro motor and the sound insulation part no's 54 34 7 193 448 and 54 34 7 119 635 i then downloaded the how to's done by shipkiller on here then spent the day with a mechanic friend we started at about 9.30 and finished it about 4.30 we did stop for breaks and chinwags but its not worth rushing it, i paid him £150 for the day so cost me £500 in total. it wasn't too bad to do but glad there was 2 of us wouldn't want to try it on my own.just a couple of notes if you do it mine had prep for hardtop so had a extra connector on each side and getting the top off the clips on either side the most difficult part, good luck !

Hi i seem to remember reading on here someone paying £480 from an indy.

That was me!

I ordered the roof motor from Soper BMW Lincoln via the forum discount scheme and got it for £280 delivered.

My local Indie specialist charged £200 to fit it and did a great job.

I'm not chasing BMW to try and get them to pay out for the motor...

I recently had my roof fixed. Couldn't find an indy happy to fiddle with the roof so had to suck it and go to the dealer. Total cost was £870 but I asked them to speak to BMW UK on my behalf who agreed to pay the full amount. I think they agreed to pay because the car had only been serviced at the dealers. Worth a try?

Well the 1 year AUC warranty is a stronger backing than the weak legislation, unfortunately I've had it 16 months! :(
