Roof woes .....

Hello,
Another tale of roof woe.
Looking for a steer to track down my problem.
The roof appears to initially operate normally: windows drop, roof does its 'Tranformers' thing.
Until ..... it's time for the boot lid to close over the stowed roof. It stays resolutely where it is.
I can then hit the 'Close' button and reverse the process and the roof closes over the cabin normally.
So the basic problem is that the boot won't shut when it should.
Any ideas where to start?
I've had a scan through Robbie's advice but can't see quite where I should be starting.

Get a code reader.,read the codes..then it’s relatively obvious from there

Without knowing what fault codes there are a good guess would be either hall sensor or micro switch, the ecu is waiting for confirmation that the roof is stored before closing the boot.

Could be as my car had a loose connector.
It is on the cylinder down on the right mechanism.

Actually super glued connector, seems like no barb to lock it.

Worth a look.

Sounds like the sensor that tells the car the roof is fully stowed isn't working. It needs that to then signal the boot lid to close. As others have said, a code reader will tell you for sure.

Been away for a couple of days but look for codes with the Creator tool later and check the loose plug possibility.

If you get the A690 fault code for the Hall sensor it may not be as BMW uses th same fault code for the 1 series convertible as the e89 but they mean different things for each car. It's more likely to be the Microswitch. See my thread here where it was discussed in detail https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149388

I had fault codes for microswitches but both times they were fine and it was a break in the wire, so that could also be the issue.

Anyone up to drawing the car and pointing out where each switch is and the obd code.
I nearly did it once for my own use.
But after fixing car i think why bother.
Would be useful.
