roof water ingress

Hi all

After heavy rainfall my 2003 has developed a few water droplets to the inside centre of the roof, I also noticed it was wet to the off-side sun visor. Could someone please kindly point me in the right direction for advice on leaks, seals and roof care?

Many, many thanks. :)

Water repellent treatments for the outer fabric is very reassuring but not strictly necessary. The layer under the fabric is completely waterproof and would prevent water ingress through the roof material even if the fabric layer were completely compromised. The fabric is to protect the actual waterproof layer from abrasion and ultraviolet radiation and to look nicer than bare rubber.

I'm not saying don't use such treatments (I use something similar), just that if you have leaks, it's not coming through the fabric. Julia, in your case either the windscreen seal has become stiff or the windscreen headrail locks are maladjusted. I've not heard of problems in this area, but as our cars age, there will be firsts for many things.

The locks normally appear to pull down the roof quite firmly. If yours appear to be working properly and the leading edge of the roof seems properly aligned with the headrail, I would suspect a faulty seal. You can try refurbishing it with a seal treatment such as Gummipflege. If you continue to have problems, the seal may need replacing.
