Roof support

Took the car for a spin in the sunshine today ( :) ) to blow the cobwebs off. However, when I dropped the roof, I noticed some white deposits on the metal struts that can be seen with the roof down. They couldn't really be dislodged with a fingernail. Not really sure what this is, so wondered if anyone had any thoughts/similar experiences before I take it down to me nearest dealer. Thanks

It's one of those things I want to do but have never got round to, I'm away from tomorrow, but when I get back will take a look and advise.

Have you cleaned the hinges and lubricate the moving parts lately?

I used ptfe base lubricant on all the moving parts and the motor now has a much easier time opening and closing. To do this open the roof half way and spray all the pivots and sliding pins in the hinges both sides. Also worth cleaning up and lubricating the latches and if present (removed on later cars) the stowage lock which holds the roof down.

Where are you seeing the oxidation? I do not see any bare aluminum on my car when the top is down.

BTW, Mothers aluminum polish may do the trick for you to clean these spots. I have had mixed results with it in the past, but have not found anything better.
