Hi,

I am not sure of the correct terminology of what i am looking for so forgive me for not being able to search the forum before posting. I am looking to get some sort of gel / shampoo / cream etc... that will darken / replenish the roof of my Z4 and make it look a little newer.

When i had my S2000 i put some sort of cream on it but when it rained the cream leaked an oily substance all over my windows... not even the wipers would clear it, i had to use newspaper for 3-4 months until it finally wore off. I even power hosed the roof to try remove it but had no luck so i am hoping someone here can recommend some product which they are happy with, thanks in advance for your help...

Ok cool, thanks, i will pick up a bottle after work... considering i can't read the instructions now :( is it easy to apply or do you have to let it dry etc and then add another layer... thanks again for your help...

I think you sponge it on to a damp roof, scrub and rinse off again...
You should protect the paint work however.

Yep, all correct in my opinion. I also use and recommend the Autoglym roof cleaner.

Before I used it, I hoovered my roof and used a lint removal roller to remove excess surface dirt. Autoglym comes with two bottles. One is used to clean the roof (small tip - don't scrub with the sponge applicator too hard or it' may cause furring of the roof). Spray on, gently rub across the roof to cover it with the shampoo and then use LOTS of water to wash off. The Shampoo froths up when water is applied so it'll take some time.

Then the second bottle is the protectant. Apply liberally over the whole roof but as Ben said, watch the paintwork and glass as it will stain if it drys. I tend to have some absorbant cloth with me to wipe it off instantly or for any bits you miss, some polish (I use Mer) will remove it.

Finally, I would recommend that it is all done on a day when you know it won’t rain. The protectant will need several hours to dry but once it does your roof will look spectacular in the rain!

Good luck.

An alternative is Ragtopp which is also a 2 part cleaner then protector or BMW's own product.

One comment is that whatever you use don't scrub the roof unduly as you'll damage the fibres. Use a soft brush to aggitate to cleaner

I have used the autoglym kit and ragtopp.

imo i prefer autoglym purely for its lovly beeding effect it leaves once the protector is set.

But i found ragtopp easier to rinse off. Make sure you have a hose though as it will take forever to rinse off the cleaner!

Which did you find easier to apply? Currently wondering if it's worth the effort getting hold of Raggtopp, or just getting the AG / Renovo kit.
