Roof stuck down , fully stowed - Sorted!

Hi
End of last summer my wife came to pick me up with my car with the roof down, she said 'i couldnt get it to go back up'
So i parked it in the garage until drier days came along...
Drier days are here....Carly gives me the following code 'A68D - Microswitch, roof shell 2 closed, right' and a constant bong when ever i press the close roof switch.
I kind of know how to repair the fault, if only i can get to it.
All the windows are working fine and the boot opens and closes. i can get to the pump to release the hydraulic pressure.
How do i release the catches that allow the boot section to open rearwards though?
or....is there a way to take the boot divider out and allow me to access the roof module and jump the pins ?
any help would be appreciated...
Mike

Look how to and see the manual download.
I think someone did buy a tool online somewhere.
Look here;
https://www.facebook.com/groups/zscca/posts/10161189990334429/
It’s called a release tool, part number 83300496598.
Seems like a tool that should be in a car tool kit.

Well it looks like a very long hex key. Anyone know the size?

Actually just checked that site, 40 euros with postage, forget that.
Look for some hex. rod.

So i saw Robbz on another forum suggest it was a 5mm Hex.
Think i'll make my own tool just in case.

Hi
Thanks for you replies, i managed to find your previous post about this.
Also Smartbear (Rob) is now living close to me and we see quite a bit of each other., he sent your post to me too.
In the end i made a tool using the photos shown in your post....i have managed to release one side, im working on the other hahah
Its not the easiest thing to do and even now with one side lifted im still struggling to see exactly what the tool does..
Main thing is the car isn't being used and is garaged, time isn't an issue...
I feel i'm close to being able to fix it now...watch this space!

So i took a closer look today.
There is just a 5mm diameter hole (there is a 5 stamped above it) so looks like no special tool required, just a long 5mm diameter rod.
So what do you do, just push hard and the lever moves to unlock?

hi
I have found the 'port' which is 5mm and on the drivers side i did just push and must have shifted the hinge because when i pulled on the frame
the right side of the boot shell lifted,,,,so i thought 'not too bad', 1 more to go
When i tried the near side there is a bit of a bracket blocking the port very close behind it.
I have lifted the drivers side to try and work out what i actually did that released it, i think its just a matter of perseverance mixed with luck.
I think i will make another tool and leave the tip at 5mm,
I had made it with a 4mm, 7cm long section which did bend slightly in use.
It is virtually impossible to see what or where you are pushing.
Thanks for your replies
Mike

Yes i couldn't see what it might push against.
Just see something through the hole.
Was expecting some kind of winding mechanism.
But i think the BMW tool is just something they have that is just a convenient rod, not a special tool.

IMPORTANT: don't use this tool under hydraulic pressure!! The correct emergency valve has to be released. Nothing to play with if YOU don't have any clue from this hydraulic system. You may destroy your hydraulic pump or any of the other hydraulic components. Jmy2ct

That's what's happenning when pushing with this tool (red):

The white metal plate will be pushed to the front to mechanically unlock the coupling. As said, may not be pushed under hydraulic pressure!

Hi Robbie
Brilliant, thanks for that picture...its exactly what i have been looking for.
I have released the pump for the boot section only at this point...will release the other valve prior to lifting the roof out
Regards
Mike

The latest part of this saga.
After releasing one side of the rear clam shell/boot assembly/bas**rd of a thing last week..i thought i would leave the other side and come back to it in a day or two, the boot roundel was still working so i closed it down and went for a cuppa.

2 days later...i went back to find the boot wouldn't open and i had taken a step backwards...
I managed to do the fuse box pin jump release...
What kind of monkey designed the fuse box on our cars?
Absobloodylutely ridiculous piece of crap....anyhow...thanks to Davegt's post i popped the boot lid.

While i was feeling pleased with myself i thought i would try to release the other side of the rear clam shell/boot assembly/bas**rd of a thing.
And just hit the sweet spot on the 2nd attempt,,,

Now i have opened the rear clam shell/boot assembly/bas**rd of a thing and am able to lift the roof out to repair the broken wiring...
The grandkids are arriving any minute , so i have to go amuse them....
I'll put a follow up on here later this week.

With the nice weather approaching, i have a little tip for you all.
To keep wasps away while you relax in the garden or on the beach in this weeks coming heatwave...dab a small blob of jam onto a kid..

Im Stuck!!
I have my roof stuck in the boot...
I have released the hinges with a special tool
I have opened the hydraulic vales on the pump
I have opened the rear 'clamshell' up backwards
I can lift the back window section easily
I CANNOT lift the front section of the roof out of the boot, the back part seems fairly loose but the
front part against the passenger firewall seems like it is locked down
Have i missed something?
