Roof storage tray

Hi one of the hinges on my 2009 35i
Has come apart this means that the aluminium
Bar at the rear of the tray is not attached
took it to the dealer ( the car has had it's
Warranty extended )
Who says trim items aren't covered.
But you can't buy the hinge and the tray
Will cost £152 + Vat + fitting.
The item in question is only attached to
The tray/bar by 3 tiny pins which are
Melted together so you can't replace them
Am I right in thinking if I've got to buy
The complete item it's a bit of a raw deal?
What do you guys think?

Can you still open and close the roof ?
Think their pulling a fast one calling it trim, its a integral part of the roof mechanism imo

It's quite common, try pressing them again to replace it, appeal to bmw directly if needed.

Failing that, it's quite easy to drill through the three rivets and put a short nut and bolt through instead. Likely last longer!

I'm going to dig my heels in the fact that the hood mechanism
Is dependent on that piece of low rent tat. ( 3 pegs about
2.5 mm in diameter) why not screw it on instead of heat fixing
It.
The roof can still be used but you have to guide the cover into
Place. It cant be fixed with self tappers as the plastics gone
Brittle.
Can't believe how crappy that hinge is considering
What these cars cost. saw better plastics in my 1983 Talbot
Horizon. ;(

Go down the route of "It's an integral part of the roof interlocking mechanism which just happens to be trimmed"

This topic has been 'done to death' on both this forum & our USA cousin - everything you say is correct... and so is the advice; had mine replaced under warranty after my garage contacted BMW.
