Roof stops halfway - motor sounds ok

Hi, I have tried to do a search on here but I could not find the same issue as mine.

My roof was working fine, I jacked up my car from the passenger side, after that my roof has started playing up. I press the button to put it down or up, I hear the motor working fine, but there is a delay before the roof starts moving. When I try to close the roof, it goes half way and then stops. I have to turn the ignition off and then on again and it then closes fully.

It latches/unlatched from the screen fine.

I also can’t seem to operate the roof manually, pulling and locking the Bowden cable does nothing.

Could it be that I need I have upset the fluid level and I need to bleed the system? Is this possible? Could the fluid be low? Is there an easy way to refill the fluid without taking the motor out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am in High Wycombe, if there is anyone nearby who can help please let me know.

Thanks in advance

What are you expecting by pulling the the red handle in the boot? This just activates the bypass plunger on the pump which disconnects the hydraulic circuit allowing you to move the roof by hand. If the roof is still completely solid with the bowden cable pulled and turned then the brass bypass plunger on the pump is stuck (very common issue). If the plunger is kind of stuck halfway then it may explain why the roof is a bit intermittent but nearly always when the roof stops halfway it's because the wiring is broke which runs up between the roof layers on the passenger side. Few posts about that on here.

Thanks for the reply. The roof can’t be moved by hand with Bowden cable pulled so might be the bypass plunger. Can I fix this without taking the roof off/motor out?

I will do a search for the the broken wiring. Thanks

Certainly don’t need to take the roof off - the motor can be pulled through into the boot area where you can inspect and free up the plunger. A few members on here specialise in that for £80 or so. Not sure who is closest to High Wycombe though.

I guess bowser might be the nearest there or possibly number 5 in Bristol..cant exactly remenber where bowser is located but I think its somewhere in the south east?

I am on the Hampshire/Surrey border which is roughly 45 mins from you :)

That’s not too far. Would you be able to take a look for me some time? Should I pm you for details/costs?
