Roof slashed

Hey guys,

2 days ago a junkie slashed my soft top and got in the car just to steal the coins stored in the ashtray. I had the top fixed. However you can see the stiches and it bothers me. I have ordered from the USA a new soft top replacement with a heated glass.

1. How easy is for the soft top to be fixed onto the "skeleton/backbone" on which the soft top goes?
2. I have ordered a stayfast canvas not a twillfast. Anyone had experience from one of them?
3. Any advice? (apart from breaking his bones if I get my hand on him?)

   IMG_4292.JPGIMG_4291.JPG

(apologies for the bad english, not my main language)

Can't help on the technical side. Feeling some of your pain hope the repair goes well  Breaking bones is too good for the people who do these things.

Really sorry to hear this, what a scumbag piece of sh1t, you need to visit the moron with a baseball bat

Sorry to hear that buddy :(
Really feel for you, especially when this happens to a fellow Zed.

Was it not possible to get a complete soft top? Surely that would save you having to re-attach it to the roof skeleton?

Best of luck!

That's bad news, but thankfully rarely happens, not that it's any consolation for you..

Why not go through insurance and have you actually placed the order?
I'd say it's a specialist job to fit and especially as it sounds like you have ordered aftermarket. The roof is pretty complicated and I'm not aware of anyone replacing canvas themselves.
I'd start by researching it on the TIS and see what the steps for roof off an on and then replacing the canvas, stretching and aligning roof

I've done one ! Never again ! Take it to a specialist is my advice, the canvas I did was take off and refit job but I think a new one would be harder to do because the fabric will be tauter than the one I did . Roof needs to come out and whilst you at that then I'd refresh the motor and relocate it in the boot . Good luck .

Really sorry to hear that OP.

I hope you can get it fixed, and get some time in a confined space with a baseball bat and whoever did it.

Thank goodness I have a Coupe!

Would go through the insurance for something like that personallY, even if I didn't have protected no claims. Would be beyond my capability and like others have said I would imagine a non BMW, brand new canvas especially hard to install! Good luck whatever you decide to do

To be honest I would cancel your order if you can. Its quicker and easier to fit a whole new roof and there available from as little as £250 upwards. Even if the one you get is a little unloved they usually clean up a treat with the likes of autoglym. the added bonus would be your existing roof could be used as spares or striped to sell the various bits individually recouping some of your outlay.

where did this happen?

What an utter scumbag.

Have you already ordered the fabric? If not, I'd be more inclined to just replace the roof complete with a used one, it's a BITCH of a job to change the fabric and get it right. A used roof will probably work out cheaper and easier.

Mike

i'm amazed anybody would do this tbh and for what £2? it's crazy they deserve the same treatment as your roof.

as above i would buy a used one off ebay or a breaker
