Roof shell 2

Hi all. I’m replacing the wiring for the roof and have removed roof shell 2. Robbiez4 posted previously not to reuse the bolts holding the roof to the mechanism. Is there any particular reason for this as I propose to reuse them by cleaning the threads and using new thread lock on them. Look forward to receiving answers from those in the know. TIA. Cheers

If you've experience with thread lock and know the exact specifications of the different i.e Loctite products, you can reuse the screws.

My concern is that if I use Loctite, I won't be able to remove the self-threaded screws again, even years(!) later, if the need arises. To avoid futures risks in the roof shell (drilling out a screw IMHO won't be an option in the shell) I went back to new BMW screws.

Any product recommendations (with experience) available?

Hi Robbie
Thanks for your reply. I’ve rewired the roof harness on both sides and replaced the 2 microswitches in the boot. Roof shell 2 refitted with existing bolts and new thread lock. Everything working perfectly now. Took a couple of days and a lot of patience but now I have a fully operational roof. So pleased with it but for most people they probably couldn’t do this and the cost of someone else doing it would be astronomical given the labour time. Great cars but I wonder how many get scrapped because of these roof issues!

Don't think so, but anybody has/will take the costs.

Interestingly impatient owners are going to sell these cars with a discount of some 1k€/GBP. Indirectly, the seller will take the costs, not the buyer.
