Roof repair

Since there are two threads running concurrently here, and my situation has changed a bit - I’d like to recap and request some advice.

INITIALLY, when depressing the button to drop the roof, the roof would unlatch but move no further. I could hear the motor running in the well behind my left ear.

At one point I could no longer hear the motor running at all.

I’m not sure if the change in motor behavior was a result of me pulling the shelf in the boot, or if it happened before that.

after shift removal the roof would no longer unlatch - which I solved by mechanically forcing the switch (I wedged something in there to close the contacts). The roof will now unlatch but the hydraulic motor does not run.

I have not seen any signs of a fluid leak. I have a saab where I blew a cylinder and the headliner had a very large sticky wet spot.

The motor is not original - it was replaced a hood 8-10 years ago. My mechanic obviously did a good job of protecting it since it still looks practically new.

When holding the motor horizontal, I can see hydraulic fluid in the reservoir (almost up to the midpoint) with the roof up.

I am going to buy a new motor/pump assembly ($200+) but would like to try to confirm that this is the issue. I am thinking that MAYBE the motor stopped running once I pulled the shelf. I admit I don’t understand the purpose of the red ring and whether that could be impacting what I’m seeing.

Can someone educate me on the red ring and provide any other advice on how I can confirm it’s the motor/pump?

Thx in advance

We’ll, I purchased a new pump and motor. It was filled with what looked like transmission fluid which I replaced with CHS11S.

I thought it would be a simple swap - move over the two pneumatic lines, pop on the two wires and I’d be good to go. But…

On closer inspection I noticed that there’s a black plastic part wrapped around the existing unit (between the pump and motor) with an attached cable that does not exist on the new unit. I thought I’d move over the plastic piece to the new unit - but there doesn’t seem to be similar mounting holes on the new unit.

Can someone educate me on what I’m looking at?
