Roof repair Torquay Devon

Hi all you E89 owners in the West Country. My wife has just had the roof on her Ford Focus CC repaired at Bowden Auto Services in Torquay. It needed a new wiring loom as it had some breaks in it, now works every time and she is very pleased and happy. Small company that does diagnostics and roof repairs, they have a website but are mostly on face book. They also have ISTA. Cost a little over £700.00 and included the diagnostic, loom, labour and VAT. Seems a lot but now have a happy wife. :thumbsup: Mike.
 
That's very interesting to hear as I need my roof loom doing. Think I might be getting in touch with them for a quote :thumbsup:
 
It’s a small place at the end of a back alley but don’t be put off they are very good and have good reviews. My wife is very pleased and has been using her roof without problems since. Also as it is local it’s close if something does go wrong again. So far so good though :thumbsup:

That seems like a great deal. Peter Hardy "repaired" a broken wire (not replaced the whole loom) on mine last Sept and the whole thing cost me £850 and the wire broke again yesterday. Edinburgh to Torquay is a walloping trek, but I'd rather do that and get the whole thing replaced for new than have to go through this a 3rd time.
 
The irony is that owners who want their cars sorted will travel the length of the country, yet people who are looking for their first one will only consider something in their own back yard. :roll:

The difficulty with an incipient roof issue is that often the car can't be driven far.
 
Had another electrical problem in Wales and had the AA bring it home. Took it to them the next day and sorted it the same day. :thumbsup:
 
Is replacing the entire wiring loom for the roof system something people do/worthwhile doing as preventative maintenance?

Bit of backstory: In Sept 2023, a wire broke causing the roof on my Z4 to fail and refuse to close. Took it in and Peter Vardy "repaired" it (read: Patched with new wire) and it's broken again just shy of 11 months later, only having done c. 3800 miles in that time. Obviously a patch is only going to fix that specific part of the wire and not the rest of the aging 12 year old loom, so I'm wondering if its worth either insisting that they replace the entire loom, or taking it elsewhere to get the job done. It would certainly need another patch job right now to get the damn thing to close and latch anyway, but it feels like a whole new loom might be needed.

Anyone got any thoughts?
 
My wife’s Focus CC car had a repair to a wire at our local garage and it lasted about 4 times. We took it to the company in Torquay and they replaced the entire roof loom. They did say that the roof was an easy one to work on as it only has 2 roof parts. The thing that almost put us off was the £130.00 initial diagnostic plus VAT. But my wife is very happy and has used the roof unless it’s raining since. So hopefully it’ll be okay for a long time. We are lucky that the company is close to us, otherwise it would be a hotel visit as they ordered the loom afterwards. Took a week to arrive. There is a bigger company near London called Cayman that might keep more stock but again it would be at least an overnight stay. We found them on Facebook, perhaps there is a company nearer you.
