Roof Repair Quote

I had my roof removed and was quoted the following to have it repaired.
The parts were quoted at $4000-$6000 but i was told i can sourece my own.
Am I being ripped off and how difficult is it to do these repairs myself?
Thanks in advance.

Stage 1 - Remove roof and check -$480 (incurred cost)
Stage 2 - If you are not proceeding refitting the roof - $552 (cost to be incurred)
Total cost - $1032

In the future the following parts would need to be sourced to fix the issue currently experienced:
Part # 54347193448 - Hydraulic Unit
Part# 54347193449 - Hinge Left
Part# 54347193449 - Hinge Right
Part# 54347119639 - Hydraulic Hose
Part# 54347119640 - Hydraulic Hose
Part# 54347114081 - Repair Kit
Labour for removal, installation of parts, testing and refitting the roof will be 8.5 hours at a cost of $1224.

Is it just the motor thats gone?.
A few Guys on this forum can revive the roof motor relocate it to boot so it stays dry in the future, all without removing the roof for around £ 200 .

The motor is still working but is slightly rusty and is leaking hydraulic oil, is it true that a leak in the motor cannot be fixed as its internal and a new motor is necessary? Apparently both pistons/hinges are also leaking hydrolic oil meaning they need replacing too.

Seems it's Australian Dollars.

Just export some frozen beef to the current UK. That'll cover the costs.

These costs are all in Australian Dollars, so -45% for pounds
Not quite as horrifically expensive as I first thought then.
As they've diagnosed the problem and got the roof off, I'd collect the car, source the parts (probably from ebay) and fix it myself. (Re-siting the pump into the boot)

So many new parts needed! So everything is leaking? Do they actually know that, or are they just covering off all bases that they think could be leaking, as they're not actually able to find the leak?
I'm aware that a leak can occur from the hydraulic line in the well by the driver's seat - the lines are stainless but the elbow is mild steel > sits in water > rusts > leaks. I don't know the answer to your motor query, but would have thought it depends on exactly from where it's leaking. And it sounds like they're not too sure. How knowledgeable are they?
I had a leak 'from the motor' that turned out to be no more than a slightly corroded washer.
Good luck

Buy a complete secondhand roof and swop everything as a unit only labour cost is to put it back together.

There just aren't ANY scrap Z4's in Aus and to import a s/h roof (even if you could find one) would be so expensive it wouldn't be viable.
