Is it possible to get a thingamajig to make the roof work via the remote control key and if so, does anyone on here fit it as I'm pretty useless at that sort of thing?... or according to the wife, everything

Sounds spot on... I wonder how 'plug and play' plug and play is

You should already be able to lower the roof mr P just by holding onto the open button on remote , need to keep it pressed though as its not a one touch feature .
Doesn't work on raising for some reason :?

Was always told it doesn't work on close as it has no anti trap feature, it will probably work with key in door lock and turn an hold in the lock position same as e85, as it means you are next to the car

The panoramic roof and windows in my X3 do that so tried the Zed but nothing. The guy from the service department told me it was an option with comfort access as there was no safety anti trap feature, do you have comfort access on yours? :?

Nope , no fancy comfort access stuff . I just hold the open car button from locked & away it goes :?

It's closing from the key that's possible via comfort access. Opening from the key should be possible on any car provided you do not have the software updates to prevent OBD access. This also prevents lowering of the roof from the metal key and from the fob.

I think I've just been a bit of a div  Im pretty sure it was closing I've tried and just assumed it wouldn't open but with the lack of anti trap its making sense now  too much sunshine, I'll have a go when I'm back from holiday

I'd just figure out my own stupidness and what you said makes perfect sense now

If the remote doesn't seem to be playing ball, use the key in drivers door lock an hold in unlock position, see if that works, then try the same with roof open but hold the key in the lock position, if that does operate the roof then it should only need a bit of coding to make it work from key , but you will still have to press an hold the lock it unlock on the key fob

Go with manic s explanation mine works for e85 I was hoping it would be similar for e89 , but he's far more versed in the e89

This is simply a coding issue that's all. You do not need comfort access to active this feature. I have coded it myself so that I can lower the roof with the key fob. I can't close it but I can bring all the windows up along with the folding and unfolding of mirrors.

If you haven't got it, Get the Carly BMW app and their Bluetooth dongle, you can do it all yourself in 5 minutes! Or find someone local. I'm in Essex if that helps? Would be happy to do it for you if you're local.

Im away at the mo but will check when I'm back in Blighty. I appreciate the offer and will let you know

I've always thought that opening the roof remotely by holding down the open button puts more of a strain on the motor compared with opening the roof when the engine is running. Any truth to this?
