Roof question

The roof on my E85 operates pretty much perfectly, as nature intended, smoothly and quickly. However, I’ve noticed recently when opening it, it doesn’t go quite100% down into place. It’s only about 1/2 inch but it’s not quite fully flat as it should be. Any suggestions why it is stopping slightly short of a flush fit?

its possibly the first signs that the motor is weakening, as this part of the operation involves pulling the hood down tight and compressing the folds.

Alternatively, have you recently treated the hood fabric with any products that could have stiffened it and therefore create more resistance to folding than there was before ?

It’s an 05 with 102k on the clock, so I guess the roof has been up and down a fair few times down the years, so maybe the motor is losing its mojo. I haven’t treated the roof for a good few months, I usually do it before and after the winter. It has been “snow foamed” and given a gentle clean with a soft brush to get rid of a few marks and bird poo a couple of times in recent weeks, could that have a shrinking effect?

Possibly the snow foam and jet washing has flooded the motor. It would be a good time to get it relocated to the boot where it can stay dry, before it gets any worse.
If you're in Essex, give Bowser a call at RBM, Hook. (He's closer to you than I am in Bristol)
