Roof pump

Quick question. Is there autos way to service the roof motor pump? Mine appears to be weak.
 
do you mean the motor? if its not relocated to the boot then no. have a look for a thread about moving to the boot
 
Is your motor spinning at full speed? If so then yes, the pumps are adjustable, but not by much!

When I bought my car, it was known to be "lazy" when putting the roof down, needing a push. Then a week later the motor failed. I stripped and refurbed the motor and adjusted the valves inside the pump. It's now better, but not perfect. In all of the 150+ roof motor relocation/repairs I've done, I have only seen 2 others with this problem. If your motor is already in the boot, try swapping the lines over, ie unbolt the banjo 12mm bolts and swap left to right, if the problem then appears on the opposite cycle, ie it was slow to open and now it's slow to close, then it's probably the pump.

If your motor is still in the original housing, then the first thing you need is it relocating, which of course I'm now a bit of an expert at.

My motor is in the boot. First thing I done. The motor is good both ways. It just needs a wee push to get it going. Another member on here changed the pump and that solved his same problem. This is why I was asking about servicing them because they are around the £400 mark from BMW auto parts.
 
You can pick up a perfectly good motor on ebay for £149 inc delivery. I did.

i used these guys and whilst it may not be BMW OEM it works great and has a guarantee too.

It's not the motor. It's the hydrolic pump on top that's not working right.
 
Thread revival here as I still haven't found any info on this issue (i.e. healthy motor, but pump weak in one direction). For me at least, the bypass valve appears to lift off its seat after one or two roof operations, leading to reduced pressure in one direction (for me it's in the "roof open" direction, but that isn't so important). I'd like to remove the bypass valve but haven't found a socket skinny enough to fit into the recess. Has anyone else had this issue and fixed it?

When I was scouring the net for info last month I ended up on roofmotors.co.uk. I was looking for pump rebuild kits and decided to email them, describing my symptoms. They replied and said they could rebuild the pump for £65 inc. postage. In the end I thought it would be worth it to be rid of this niggle, but I've refitted the rebuilt pump and it's exactly the same :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I'd like to do that but haven't seen any pop up for sale I don't think. I'd like to think that the company who rebuilt my pump has a test rig that would identify any pump issues, but am not yet 100% sure of that. They haven't responded to my email yet, having been extremely quick to reply to my three or four emails to GET the work/my money.
 
Thread revive, did you manage to get this fixed? I’m having the same issue and been told it’s the pump so just want to see if you managed to find a second hand pump or was it a full replacement?
