Roof Pump

While grovelling around in the boot of my recently acquired e89 I discovered that the roof pump is loose and just sat directly on the metal floor. Do I assume this should not be the case? Any help how how it should be would be gratefully received.

Wow that looks properly manky looking in there. Mines was clean as a whistle. However the pump should not be loose but where is the insulating foam that was in there?

Agreed about the manky but it will get cleaned up! The rest of the car is excellent. Do you know how it should be fixed? The foam is AWOL! :(

I have a horrid feeling that it was cradled by the foam. It was quite dense and I suspect there has been some water ingression at some point and the foam was removed.

I’ll see if there is a part number anywhere for the foam.

Edit - there is a support for it you need part numbers 51479139043 (part 9) and the cover is 51477225246 (part 10). You possibly also need 54377223332 (part8)

Thank you ever so much! :D Part 10 is for sale on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-Series-E89-Roadster-Cabrio-Convertible-Support-Cover-Roof-Pump-Motor/273175987546?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D1c49d961bfb14d009338ad808aa1a2e8%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D273175987546%26itm%3D273175987546&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Aa89d1991-eb27-11e8-b59d-74dbd1807e9f%7Cparentrq%3A26a532bc1670aa42f5af3e4dfff753c1%7Ciid%3A1 but I will have a Google around before I order.

OK I can find parts 9 and 10 online at a reasonable cost. Part 8 "Fastening kit" I can't find but it looks as though it is about £50. Before I go to a BMW dealer does anyone know what it actually is/does and do I actually need it? I don't mind spending the money but as a Yorkshireman I'm careful with my brass! :)

Fixing kit is probably for all the cylinders.
My pump just sits in the foam loose.
Might be good opportunity to make sure you don't have a leak in there if recently acquired.

Thanks flybobbie. I’ll check for any leak. I’ve ordered the foam container and lid from BMW so will see how it goes once I’ve received it and cleaned up the boot area where it sits. The cars not been out in any heavy rain since I got it but next time I wash it I should be able to tell.

when completing your parts in the trunc, please have a look at the following story and get your pink relays replaced for about 30-40 bucks.

Thanks for the info RobbiZ4. I’ve read the article at your link and watched the video. Accordingly I’ve ordered a couple of relays and they are currently on the way to me. This is great information as the cost of a new unit from BMW is plainly a rip off. Hopefully I will have everything sorted before the foam container arrives from Germany.

Thank you to everyone who helped with my pump problem. It now has new relays fitted and is tucked up in it’s new foam container. :)
