Roof problems

Hi. Have a 2007 2.5i which recently developed a roof mechanical issue, just prior to me planning to sell it. The motor has not been moved to the boot like so many, which maybe I should have done when purchased 4 years ago.
So the roof goes down ok but the motor fails to lift the roof back up.
I'm in norfolk, and have been advised a garage called autotech. They will look at it for 60 pounds ( hourly rate)
I wondered if anyone had the same problem?
Also thinking should I get it fixed, thinking its gonna cost 3 to 400 to get a new motor and fitted in the boot.
Should I sell it as it is maybe....
Any advise or local knowledge of someone who might be recommended for looking at it would be welcome

Yes indeed, give me a shout.
I stand to be corrected, but I suspect if it's working ok one way then the pump is goosed.
First thing is to get it into the boot where a proper analysis can be done.
I don't have a spare pump, but if Stuart (bigwinn) still has the complete unit he was selling then you're looking at £160 for that, plus whatever you feel my time is worth. That part is entirely at your discretion.

If you sell it as is then the buyer is going to quote you the same £3-400 and expect it knocked off.

Just as a follow up, we got Phil's roof sorted today. He arrived armed with the 'as new' motor/pump assembly from Stuart.
Within 10 minutes the top cover had popped off cleanly in my hands with no real effort at all. Now that sounds like a bonus, but it turned out to be a nightmare! It left nothing to lever the bottom half of the casing upwards with, making it a real faff to break the tie-wraps to remove it.
One hydraulic pipe was tightly routed under that casing, making it too risky to stick a knife down there to try to get the tie-wrap.
This last pipe took a good 45 minutes to get out. One of the most annoying ones I've done.
After that though, all went well and John has gone home with a neatly relocated, shiny new roof motor and a fully functioning roof.
Sadly it was lashing down so he didn't get any benefit from it.

Overall though, another demonstration of forum benefits as the whole job has cost half what he was quoted from a garage, and after watching my Z4 gynaecological yoga session he did say he wondered exactly how a general garage would have dealt with it.

Certainly is!
Alan (Number5) is the foremost expert on these and is in Bristol.
Not sure how often he is on here now, but once you get to three posts you can pm him.

As enuff_zed said the roof has now been fixed by removing the old one and putting the new one in the boot.
