Roof problems

My dealer did😀
All credit to them, I don’t use them for routine service, but they came up trumps on this, hence me leaving them a good review.
Westerly BMW we’re excellent.

Well, I now have my Z4 back from BMW with a fully working retractable hardtop. I feel confident that all is good now. The control unit along with a hall sensor have been replaced due to corrosion. I did point out that my local garage had discovered a faulty hall sensor but advised a visit to BMW because of their superior diagnostics equipment. BMW's answer was, that if just the sensor had been replaced I would have been back almost straight away for the control unit. They have returned the original unit and sensor etc to prove the corrosion and it is very plain to see.
Due to my impatience, not waiting 3 weeks for my, not too local Indy to have a look I have come out with a hefty bill of £808 negotiated down from £900 and I was told BMW did not charge for any labour for the sensor and gave a large discount on both items!!!!
Hopefully the couple of things that need attention now I can manage and will enjoy doing.
Thanks all for your input.

Interesting story.

Could you please post a picture of the corrosion inside of your CTM? This is an extremely rare fault.

As a general advice, this is nonsense. It has to be checked individually after identifying the source of water.

This is a CTM with corrosion on it's chips:

Sorry for delay in replying Robbi. I have attached some photos of returned parts that were replaced. Look forward to your thoughts.

Perfect, thanks.

In this special case I'd agree to replace the CTM, though all 4 plugs could have been cleaned up as well.

But the hall sensor was an absolute must to be replaced.

Thanks for your reply Robbi, gives me confidence in BMW diagnosis. I did say ''could the contacts not have been cleaned' with a half smile but was met with a raised eye brow. The job had to be done right.
Working out labour time at BMW rates I think I was treated quiet fairly, but still flinch.
