Hi Everyone, the roof on my Dec 2006 z4 wont go down! it unlocks at the front and then you can hear the motor whining but the roof wont go down. i realise its probably shot but you never know!! is there the possiblity that the motor has been disconnect by the red thing in the boot??? how do you know if this is the case?

any help would be very helpful before i have to go to the STEALERS! by the way it hasnt done this before but it was in the body shop getting some work done to the bumper!

make sure that the roof stowage area is in the wrong position or the micro switch is faulty. one in not a fault. just let it back down in to the trunk by turning the 2 small rotrary handles. second operate the 2 leavers a few times to see if the micro swith will go back to normal.

I would think that if the micros switch was in the wrong postition the roof wouldnt even attempt to move, so I dont think that would be the problem.

If the micro switch is in the wrong position, the roof will unlock but not retract.

To check this, manually lower the roof and and then attempt to raise the roof as normal. If it goes up, then the switch is bad.....

I had this problem. I did a post about it and the repair. But since it is under warranty, let the dealer deal with it...

Same, the motor failed on mine .

Warranty repair

I had to manually push the top back the first 2 feet to get it down and then the motor took over.

This is one of the most common (and expensive) failure for the Z4 roof construction. Look at the page http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8201&p=126285#p126285 for further info
