Roof problem

Hi all, new to post but long time lurker :)

Anyway, my roof went this evening and it's a little unlike another problem I can see, so I thought I'd ask for a little help. I was putting it up, and it just got stuck about a third of the way up. I looked in the manual, and worked out how to raise it manually, and the using the buttons locked it in place. The motor hasn't been making any strange noises, and doesn't make a sound now when I try and raise/lower the roof.

When I now try and manually put the roof down, it'll only go as far down as when it got stuck coming up, and this is what's puzzling me. Any ideas would be much appreciated, cheers! I'm really hoping its something simple as I paid my insurance yesterday, and paid for my mot, service and new brakes on Saturday - what's more, it's a year to the day since I bought it!!!

When you say you discovered how to put the roof up manually, did this involve pulling the release catch in the boot to disengage the hydraulics?

It sounds a bit like the hydraulics are still connected so the fluid isn't bypassing the system and is stopping the hood from being dropped manually.

Get someone to help you, pull the manual release catch and at the same time get someone else to gently push on the roof, if that doesn't work then sorry I am all out of advice and you'll need someone with much more knowledge on here to give you advice.

Best of luck with it.

Been having a bit of a mess and yeah, that is what I meant, released the red catch, lubricated the hinges and got the roof down fully now. Checked the fuse too, thats fine (assuming its number 31). Same problems though, so I'm guessing it's the motor, sigh.

It'll be a DIY job as my mates a mechanic, where's the cheapest place to get one? And is there a decent guide floating about to do this?

Do a search for the excellent write up on how to change the motor, either try ebay for a motor, or many people here recommend Sopers BMW, I think you get a discount from their spares dept if you mention this forum.

best of luck
