Roof problem

Hi all,

I've hit roof trouble with the beloved zed. It goes up and down but incredibly slowly while making a loud squealing noise. Took it to my local indy earlier- they think it's the pump not motor but advised it need a specialist to fix it. They've suggested cayenne autos. A bit of digging through very helpful threads on here means I'm also thinking about rbm in Hampshire (I'm in brighton).

Anyway this is the biggest issue ive had in a few years of ownership. Thats possibly fortunate but means im now feeling a mix of dread and out of depth! So could I ask for views from those far more knowledgeable than me on things I should think about/questions to ask specialists/where to take it/any other helpful tips?

Massive thanks in advance

Hey Dave

Don’t worry these things happen

You’ll be in good hands if you head to RBM

Has the roof motor been relocated to the boot? If so, it’s probably a relatively easy DIY fix. If not, it’s a bugger to get at, so you should get it relocated at the same time.

RBM is very good for everything Z4 but you may have to wait a while for a booking.

Or you could try sweet-talking [ref]enuff_zed[/ref] in case he’s in Sussex on a Z4 mercy mission in the near future.

Thanks both, I'll give rbm a call. Given the impending arrival of British autumn I might not miss roof down driving too much if there's a wait I guess!

And no the motor hasn't been relocated- ill pop that on the to do list for the same visit!

I’m afraid I won’t be down that way soon so RBM is your best bet.
In case you aren’t aware, the pump and motor are all in one assembly, hence the suggestion that it is all moved into the boot first.

Thanks! I wasn't aware (which despite a few years ownership still seems to be my position on many things z4!)

Resurrecting this briefly in case helpful for anyone's future roof problems. RBM had the Zed in yesterday and were as excellent as everyone said they would be - roof motor out, new one sourced, relocated, and installed within the day. Kept me updated throughout the day and made it super easy to understand my choices and costs.

Big thanks again to everyone here for the recommendation and advice. Now time to hope for some Autumn sunshine!
