Hi just true to put the roof down and I get a wirring sound from the left side and roof won't budge.
Is it the sensor I have knocked out or something.
Read about the red lever somewhere you can pull to release the mechanism to manually put the hood back up.
Looking like rain soon so bit desperate.
I left a bag in the boot when the roof went down if that caused the problem,.

Can anyone talk me throug what to do.
Rood and motor only replaced a year ago.
Cheers

check that the boot tray isnt in the up position (dont think this is possible with roof down but if you have knocked it with the bag in boot maybe it has knocked the micro switch) this will cause the button to flash orange from memory.

but if its making the noise but not working sounds like the cable in the boot was knocked and has unconnected the hydraulics, try pushing the red cable back in and engaging it again to make the hydraulics work?

other than that, im not sure of any other issues (apart from full blown failure)

Hi thanks for the advice.
So we released the hydraulics with the red handle and put the hood back Then reseated the roof tray and ensured micro switch was re attached.
No lights coming on now and when you press down switch the motor whirs but roof does not open.
Is this the motor wearing out or is something preventing hood opening?
Thought when roof closed I had fixed it but now not sure why room want open again.
Any help much appreciated .
Cheers
Adrian

are you 100% sure you have seated the red cable back correctly, if so i cant help anymore but im sure others will be along to help, at least u have got it closed now properly!

Hi how do you know if the red cable is seated back properly? Do yo know what position it should be in? Maybe I have not done it properly as only just bought the car.
Thanks

Ok as far as I can tell the red handle is in the correct position.
Another problem however is that I just found the micro switch itself is on the floor , it's a inch long spring type thing. Any ideas how I get it back where it belongs as sure this is why roof won't work?
Tried to just slot it back in place but very fiddle.
Thanks

Thanks for this. Of I had the right tools I would give it a ago but not that confident. Guess I will have to take it to a garage to do. Any suggestions once it's back in what else to check as to what the roof wouldn't move in the first place?

Your switch is broken. A new one is about £20 and is a very easy 10 min job to replace.

You need a Philips screwdriver and a little common sense, you might even be able to bodge with the part you've found. Mine broke 5 years back and I took it apart and managed to bodge it. It's still working now!

Oddly though the switch if broken or not engaged, usually means no action whatsoever at the button, and you mention the motor whirring.

If you search my posts there's a couple of basic instructions on how to located and sort the switch. And I did mine leaning into the boot, didn't have to lean over from the cabin at all.

Thanks for all the help.
The switch is broken but I was having a problem with the roof motor before the switch fell out so wonder if the it's the Motor.
The movement is slow and does seem very powerful.
It needs an old service anyway so will ask local independent BMW garage I know to take a look but really hope the motor does not need replacing.
It was replaced in 2011. How long do they usually last??
Cheer s all

Despite the hiccups I am really loving the new Zed!!

Mine was on at least its 4th motor when last one was replaced when it was 8 years old. One only lasted a week.
Some Zeds of similar age are still on the original.
I think a lot depends on where the car is stored. Mine was outside in all weathers and was a DD so was open to the elements a lot more than others.
Also regularly cleaning the drain holes is a must.

Glad it's not spoiling your ownership and hope you get it sorted soon.

If the switch isnt made you'll get an amber light by the roof buttons and nothing happens
