roof problem..!HELP!

hi guys,
iv got a z4 2.5 03 plate and im having a problem with the roof!..
when i press and hold the button it seems to not have the power to open, if i press onec wait a few seconds then press and hold it opens, its absoultly fine closing and i never have problems its only when opening.
if i press & hold the button then give it a gentle nudge it will open.
was thinking the hinges might need a little lube.any ideas??cheers
 
IIRC a few others have had issues with the catches at the front needing some lube so that might be all it is.

Don't use WD40 though.
 
Yes, and while you're at it open the roof halfway and lube all the roof joints you can see to make sure they are as smooth as possible.

Yes...This is a good annual maintenance ritual. Spray white lithium grease (careful not to get in on the top fabric) on all the pivot points as well as the release mechanism at the windshield. Follow up with some silicon spray wiped on all the rubber moldings. And while you have the hood in the half open position it's a good time to clean the fabric that is normally hidden when the top is fully up or down. I just did all this to mine yesterday and there was a lot of dust and crap in that folded area. There is only one place that crap is going to end up and that is down to the drain area and we all know what problem that can contribute to.
