Roof Problem Clarification

Hi all.

I'm going to appear dumb here but I'm looking for any advice to try to diagnose my roof problem. I've read a number of posts but before I take the plunge and shell out for a new parts I'd appreciate if any help in diagnosing the problem.

I've a 2006 Sport and the exact problem I'm having is that when holding down the roof button it flashes red, disengages the roof and then the motor takes it down. It's the getting it up that's the problem. ;-)

I've seen a lot of threads saying that the roof won't go down and this is a failed motor. So is this more likely to be the hydraulics?

Sorry to sound so dumb as I'm sure this has been asked a million times.

Hi forextc and welcome, what happens when you try to get the roof back up? you didn't say.

If it's a bit hesitant going down and whines a bit, but doesn't want to know going up then 100% it's the roof motor on it's rusty way out.
If you're reasonably confident mechanically it's an afternoon's work (first time) to get the roof off, motor out and either cleaned up or replaced.
Once you've popped your (roof) cherry it's an hour tops... :)

Getting it up is the problem & popping cherry in the same thread....I need to grow up!

I reckon Georgio has nailed it. No idea on your location, but there is a member here extremely capable with these fixes, Bowser134

Hi forextc
As Tug says its relatively easy to have the roof out and dry/fix the motor.
I have recently done mine with Tugs help, he was brilliant on the phone several times talking me through the procedure,
mine now works fine!
As Tug asks where are you located?

Hi all. Thanks for the answers and sorry for the late response. I just didn't have the time or the skills to do this so I went with Bowser134 who confirmed it was the roof motor.

Must say it was all very painless and very pleased with the price and the work he did.
