Are these a common failure point? Someones had a go at fixing them before in my car and made a right mess of it.

DIY'd a fix tonight with some CSK screws. Seems pretty solid now

Hi, yes these have failed before-they seem a little fragile & wont stand any slamming or being forced over bulky items in the boot.
It’s a shame bmw don’t sell them separate to the luggage divider :(

Yep plenty of people have had to fix these.

I found the best fix was with 25mm M4 countersunk bolts and nuts.

I did have my suspicions that there would be a common failure point.

Oh well, hopefully that'll sort it for a while. I'll just be gentle with the partition :)

One of mine went the other day. Fixed as per the pics above. Also assembled it off the car car first and ran a glue gun around the nuts to embed them in the plastic. Makes it much easier when you then take the bolts out again to assemble it in the car......

Yep I followed this route last year, good as new now and a lot cheaper than buying the whole shelf!

Would anyone know if this is covered under extended bmw warranty or are they going to say this is trim and not covered? Mine just broke today.

They ought to, seeing as this is another bad design that puts load on a weak plastic structure.

Mine wasn’t covered.

I guess a lot of people just sort it themselves rather than even mentioning it to BMW. No doubt they take at peek at the forums from time to time though so must know by now it's a poor design.

Hi all, has anyone managed to obtain the STL files to 3D print a replacement bracket? My Z4 came with only half of the Left side bracket so I need to replace the whole LH bracket. I have access to my own 3D printer so a 3D printed solution would be ideal.

Thanks

Try to get in contact with the user @seb92 in the German ZRoadster forum. May be you have to register. :)

We have developed a 3D replacement last year:

Thanks. I’ll take a deeper look. Reading the thread it looks like the STL files are not freely handed out though?

Best

No, Seb wants to keep his hand on it.

No, Sebastian wants to keep his hand on it. I've paid 80 Euros for the 3D print of one single hinge in 2018.

I see, that's fair enough - I will not pay €80 for the privilege though seeing as I have my own printer, and if need be will design the hinges myself (but that will take a while - and probably would not be as pretty :D !!)

Thanks

Christopher
