Roof Orange Light

I've recently stripped the suspension on my Z4, put it all back together, and today, when I'd finally dialled in my suspension, I find out that the roof is no longer work.

It worked perfectly before I did the suspension work, so, I'm fairly sure it can't be the latch motor or roof motor, so that leave the microswitch in the boot. I don't remember dislodging it though, so I'm not quite sure why it'd suddenly need attention; have I missed something else off my check-list???
 
The orange light does indicate that the parcel Shelf switch isnt engaged. All other faults will give a red LED.
Firstly, get somebody to operate it with their finger whilst you press the roof switch

I did think the parcel shelf might be the issue, but I put it up, tested it, and down, tested it, but with no luck either way. It's dark now, but are you saying I can get a hand into the microswitch and engage it whilst someone presses the roof switch in the cockpit?
 
Yes, raise the shelf and you should see a little metal hook at the bottom of the slot in the rear bulkhead. Press that in ( to the left) and then see if the roof will start to move using the console switch

If not remove the unit by undoing the two screws, (top and bottom) and pull it out and inspect it. Sometimes the switch can detach from the assembly. Its all self explanatory once you get it out and look at how it works. Basically its looking for a closed circuit.

... but obviously I shouldn't put the roof right down as the parcel shelf in the raised position is where the glass sits??

Correct. just see if it starts to move and then you know you've located the problem.
You can take the parcel shelf right out to make things easier and still operate it as long as that switch is engaged by some means

Located the first problem; the metal tang/pin isn't there. I guess a new micro switch is in order..... :D

Check around the boot floor area as some people have found them and wondered what they were
