Roof Operation Problem...

Hi Everyone

Took advantage of the lovely weekend weather by taking the Zed out for a drive with the hood down today.

The hood lowered with no problems but when i got home and pressed the button to raise it back up, it didnt want to know.

Checked to see nothing was obstructing it and all seems fine, so in the end I had to resort to closing it manually using the release catch above the central storage compartment. Once the hood was up and above the windscreen, I tried the hood closing switch again and this time it came back to life and helped to click the hood into the windscreen catch and securing it.

I thought that had fixed it but when i tried to lower the hood again, the hood released itself from the catch and raised about an inch and stopped, then nothing. The motor was quiet even though i kept the opening switch pressed, but if i pressed the closing switch it would still secure the hood back into the catch.

So I am stumped! And hope somebody can shed some light on the problem before taking it to a specialist?

sounds to me like your motor may need refurbing / replacing. if the latch opens and closes its not electrics its probably the motor. A roof that needs a bit of a hand to my knowledge is the sign of a knackered motor.
 
Another thread ! Lol .....if you look a little you will find loads of threads here about similar issues and that should give you plenty of info . Look in the problems section or further down this section . However as a gentle heads up ........

You roof has two motors , one that latches and Unlatches the roof to the screen and one that raises and lowers the roof . Your issue is the raising and lowering motor , this can be concluded because the latch and unlatch process is working fine . When the roof is up the first motor to work is the unlatch motor , this works as you have found out , but when the roof is down the latch unlatch motor doesn't trigger until the roof sensors sense the roof is in the up position . So after you raised it manually the sensor tell the latch motor it's ok to work .

Your main motor has failed to work and normally this is an indication that the motor has some water ingress in the housing . After time the contacts rust up and the motor stops working . As long as your micro switch isn't faulty and in the correct position , it is 99 percent certain that you motor needs attention .

The motor was re-located to the boot a couple of months ago, so i thought it was safe & sound.

Im thinking now if water had gotten into the motor before it was re-located and through slow rusting it has finally broken down.

So is it a case of removing the motor, dry it in an oven, soak it over night in diesel, and hope it lives again?

If it is a replacement job, can anyone point me to a good refurbished supplier?

Oh happy days then, not so much of an issue . First check have you made sure the micro switch is being activated ? And also you mentioned pulling the bypass cable , have you correctly pushed it back into its slot ?

If that appears to be in the correct position , then I would start by tapping the motor with a hammer gently and seeing if it springs back into life , do it gently and in several places and try the switch . It may work again for a short period or for months but as you motor is in the boot already I would remove the motor from the pump and use the tap method and or putting a drill chick on the bottom of the motor shaft to get it spinning again . When it comes alive again then submerse it in a container of diesel and run it for 10-15 mins each way then drain it for 10 mins then wipe of any excess before refitting .
