Anyone's roof motor sound as though it's struggling in sub zero temps?

Removed the hardtop today for a blast. Just parked up and raised the roof, but it sounds like its struggling. Don't want to risk it jamming in the down position later.

Anyone else experience the same? Am I worrying about nothing?

no problems in my coupe :poke: :P ... only joking to be fair i would have posted a thread as well, hopefully its nothing other than the cold :)
 
Managed it -7 last year (wanted to remove the windbreak) had no problems.

But if its been down with the hard top for a while i think it does say it may need some assistance going back up.
 
Could just be the oil going a bit thick in the cold temps, maybe try something daft like leaving a fan heater going in the boot for a little to try and thin the or just wait till it warms up outside, failing that............I'm not even going to say it.
The car I'm currently driving is struggling to turn over and even my iPod refuses to work until it's warmed up a bit but then it has been about -18 for the last couple of nights.
 
Mine was perfect today - although that was after 1.25 hours on the road, but the temp was between -6 and -1 all the way!!

I had the same thing yesterday, except mine was to lower it........took the car for half hours drive and tried again, all was well :thumbsup:

Oil and lubed joints would thicken up in such cold conditions, the warmed cabin would have helped :thumbsup:

It's the water which has frozen inside the motor :poke:
 
I had mine down this morn at 2 degrees with no issue. Gave all the joints a dousing of silicone spray on the weekend to protect the movements.

Happy to report no further issues. Might have just been a bit stiff after being stowed away under the hardtop for a couple of weeks.

Had a great run there. Will post some pics in the Roadster Project thread.

The only concern I'd have is to make sure there is no significant ice or snow on it before lowering.
That could damage the fibres as it flexed them.

Will do cj. Cheers. I'll garage the car overnight to let the roof dry out, then put the hardtop back on. I'll post some pics later, but the roads are filthy... I'll need to wait until temps rise above freezing then give the car a good clean and polish :)

Yes - Good idea to give it a thorough dry out before putting the hardtop back. All too easy to get a good culture of mould going if moisture gets trapped in the folds of fabric under the hardtop.
 
:D my hardtop came off sunday loved it hopefully it will stay dry tomorrow so i can refit the ht.

Ps the roof went up no problem but the small switch at the back did stick until i moved the boot flap up and down.
