roof opening with bmw key.

My key has been programmed to do this, as the previous owner said and I tried it myself and it worked.

The problem im having is im unsure what you need to do, ive tried holding the unlock button once but that doesnt seem to do it.

Is there a set sequence needed to perform (like the gaptech 3 press)?

Cheers.

press unlock three times to open

to close press unlock twice then close once

Although im still new to my gaptech so i may need to be corrected

Mine doesnt have a gaptech module unfortunately.

Done a bit of reading and its called comfort opening, I think.

Is it true that I need to stand still and hold the unlock button to open the roof? If I move, it will stop?

If its like mine then you need to press and hold the unlock key (like you would with the internal button) until the roof is fully down. If you stop pressing at any point then the roof stops midway. I have no problem moving though, normally unlock and roof down whilst i'm walking to to the car.

You need to press and hold the "open" button on the remote until the roof has finished opening (red light on dash goes out). You can move around, as long as you stay within the range that the car can see the remote - you're only talking about 10 seconds, so it's not a long time.

You can also use Comfort Opening (and Comfort Closing) by using the physical key in the lock. Turn it to the Open or Close position and hold it there until the roof has finished opening or closing.

Not to hijack thread but is there a difference between the programming for comfort opening with the key in the lock and seperately using the remote fob?

The reason I ask is I can open/close the roof with the key in the door but I can't with the fob (perhaps too impatient?)?

Thanks!
S

to unlock try holding the key button down for a while,, if you release at anypoint it will stop... unless its like mine and the roofmotor is duff :x

Remote and Key are separate programming options, as best I remember.

Also, you can only (officially) get remote Comfort Opening. You cannot get remote Comfort Closing (unless you buy a Gap-Tech or similar module, or programme it yourself using NCS Expert).

Just for info- I have to press mine once- to unlock the car -and then press again and hold down - mine won't work on simply press and hold first time.

This is getting confusing now

When I tried it out, I held it down once, indactors flashed then a few seconds after the roof and windows went down.

Before gaptech, I had to press twice (to unlock both drivers and passengers), then hold unlock to drop the roof.

Now I have to press three times, and it all happens by magic :D

Thanks for response. Wizz I will try your method tonight...

Perhaps related, when I open the indicators do not flash - the only thing that happens is the interior light comes on as I understand the disarming notification is disabled on the car. Is this the same for you Wizz?

All these non-GapTech methods for dropping and raising the hood are so yesterday.
But also so non-warranty invalidating :!:

For those who have to click twice, do you have the option programmed whereby the first click only unlocks the driver's door, and you have to click a second time to unlock the passenger's door?

My z4 -03 wont go down pushing key-buttons. It do work when I put it in the lock and turn. Does it not work on all cars or do I need programming?

I only found this out today. I know in my partners 3 series we could open the windows. Tried on the Zed and the roof came down too :)

I have a 53 plate Z4.....just found out holding the open button down opens the roof :) Being the second owner pretty sure nothing has been added.
