General Note to all …there are 2 variants of the Micro switch/Shelf interface unit.
The Face lift has a hook type interface.

Yes, but you can swap the switch across from one housing to the other.

They did upgrade the switch to a better design that doesn't fall apart like the early ones. Shame your not on the mainland we have forum members who are roof experts and can sort all roof problems including relocating the pump/motor into the boot so it's out of harms way from water damage in the place BMW put it. If yours is still in original place suggest you get it relocated to avoid future problems. Good YouTube videos on how to do it if you want to have a go yourself.

I'll have a pint of what you're on Colin................. he's in Evesham

Here are the different shelf acuators .
I have placed the 2 types of shelves on top of each other.
The top one with the half moon is a Early Preface
The lower with the Hook is the Facelift.
So Thus you get 2 types of Switch housing to accept the above

Thanks for all the help fellas πŸ‘πŸ˜

I've learnt something this evening (a couple of things actually) ! You don't need to remove the boot shelf before removing the micro switch! Came out with a bit of a jiggle and managed to gently lever the shelf back into it's slot after refitting the switch!πŸ‘πŸ˜

Hence, I now have a working hood! Did discover some bodgery (see attached) managed to repair the metal lever and re-secure it in the switch!πŸ‘

New side indicator badges fitted, just waiting for the boot badge to arrive!

I have a 2004 z4, the soft top open/close button flashes red. The roof is open, can't get it to close, it will go about 1/2 way then stop. Can't find any information on how to actually diagnose the problem or rule out if it's a microswitch, or if it's the motor, or the latch motor. The roof is stuck open, how does one get at the microswitch and check to see if it's "faulty" when the roof is open.
