OMG had the car less than 12 months (its a 2004 2.5) and when I bought it the Main dealer (Stratsone) replaced the roof motor ! it was working fine but today I pressed the button to open it and it just unlocked and whirrs and wont fold down - if I give it a push from inside it opens.

It closes no problem ?

Has anyone had this after having a new motor fitted ? is there some adjustment ?

The warranty with the car was only 3 months so it's now down to me......

I thought the new motor would solve this pain in the arris problem - arghhhhhh if I didn't love the car so much it would be up for sale tomorrow first thing !!!

Please help someone !

Do you have any problems with the engine running? I recall reading that the roof motor experiences "weakness" with a lowish battery. So check if you still have issues when the car is running.

Btw all BMW Parts and Accessories come with a 2 year warranty so if there is an issue they should sort it

Hey thanks for that ! I will take it in on Tuesday it's just so frustrating !!!!! :headbang:

The problem is a design fault that puts an insufficiently sealed motor/pump assembly in the main roof drain and allows it to flood. Worst case, replacing the motor/pump just buys you time until the whole thing floods and rusts again.

Having said that - If the roof closes at a reasonable speed, have you checked the boot or under the car for a hydraulic leak? Those hoses are pretty easy to damage or not re-assemble properly - Shouldn't happen to a dealer but never say never.

I can second the low battery thing though too - My car went totally mad after I had opened the roof a few times on battery power but recovered completely with a freshly charged battery.

Final possibility - Do the LEDS in the control panel show correctly during opening/closing? what can also happen is that a proximity sensor gets broken off or misaligned and the car doesn't know if the roof is closed.

Ok here is the update after the car was in the garage today for the roof problem - it would appear that the roof motor replaced by the main dealer was a shoddy job ! And as such the oil from the motor has been leaking ! Hence why there is no pressure to open the roof. The motor it would appear is lose and badly fitted - let us be clear this was a main Jaguar dealer NOT a BMW dealer that supplied the car and repaired the car initially - as the warranty was only a 3 month it would appear that the repair is down to me as the fault is a leak not the motor ! My new. Garage have suggested that I may want to take it back to the Jaguar dealer and have it repaired again ? Quite honestly I do not want them getting involved they repaired this roof four times !!!!! their customer service was dreadfull and they also did a dodgy repair on the front under tray that thankfully was spotted by my eagle eyed mechanic friend and eventually put right it would seem jag mechanics are better at fixing jags than bmw's or was it simply that a 10 year old car didn't warrant any more money spending on it ? Appalling..... thank god I have a BMW specialist sorting things out now ! For the record avoid Stratstone Jaguar Manchester - sorry I know we shouldn't call garages on here ! For now the £350 - £400 bill for stripping the roof out to repair the problem sits with me !

So I assume that the part was not a bmw supplied part for which you have no receipt for hence why it can't be replaced by bmw under warranty. Ideally I would have checked with the Jag garage for where they sourced the part from, if BMW, I would then take it up with BMW as a oil leak from a motor for the roof is not your issue and for this fail on the part within a few months shows that the motor was not fit for purpose.

it sounds as though there was nothing actually wrong with the motor but the fault was with the standard of its fitting, BMW could not offer a warranty for that when it was installed by a third part (jaguar) :(
The garage that fitted it should however guarantee their work but i would agree with mr badger & would not want them touching my car again after displaying such ham-fisted ineptitude!
regards

Are you certain the leak is in the motor hydraulic line connections and not leaking at the hydraulic actuators that actually lift the top......
