Roof not locking down

When I put the roof down and its in its resting position I have to give it a quick press to lock it into place, it just doesn't go that last centimeter
It hasn't moved while driving when its not locked so does it really matter?
This is my second Z4 and can't remember having to do it on that one.

Does anyone else experience this?

Try lubricating the joints on both sides of the roof - mine used to do this, bit of oil fixed it.

I used the oil I use on my bike chain... and made sure I used a tiny bit + mopped excess up so it wouldn't drop etc. Might want to wait for other opinions as to whether that's the right thing to be using though....

The hydraulics in the motor should ensure that the roof locks when in the 'open position'. Maybe your pump isn't operating correctly?

If possible, try leaving it open and locked overnight so it takes a set of sorts. I'm honestly not convinced leaving unlocked is a big issue, seeing as the facelifts have no lock. There is evidence though that the hydraulics may have been changed to better facilitate no locking. As I do not have any experience with pre-facelifts, my opinion is somewhat worthless on this point, but there it is none the less.

I take it this the so called "dry lube" where the liquid carrier evaporates leaving a thin layer of PTFE impregnated wax? I love this stuff! I use it everywhere. It does not attract any dirt at all. The only thing is it's hard to know when more is needed, though it does seem pretty durable.

I just tried it and if the fabric is turned in like in photo 1 it doesn't lock but if I pull it out as in photo 2 it locks, BUT each time I put the roof up and down it folds into the wrong position :x :x :evil:
How the hell do you train it to fold in the right position :?

Mine's a facelift... and roof still locks in down position, definitely. My roof motor is broke at the moment - so I'm doing the roof manually. Once I've lowered it, I push the down button again, and hear noises (remember my pump is broken - so it's not the pump) and then it locks in place and won't move. So to put it up, I have to press the up button to unlock it and then lift it. Is this the locking you are talking about - or is there something else?

Oil .... er.. no idea actually what it is. Think it's just a drip oil - not any ptfe new fangled thing. What you talk about does sound better for next time though

How the hell do you train it to fold in the right position :?

The official "fix" from a BMW SIB is to open the roof, ensuring it folds correctly, and lock it down. Leave overnight in this position to allow the fabric to "relax" into the correct position.

They don't understand not everyone has a nice warm dry garage for their Zed, but then SIBs are meant for dealer service departments, not us common folk.
