Roof not folding flush

Hi guys,

Just recently bought a 2004, 04 Z4 and have found that when retracting the roof it does not sit flush with the body and the catch sits too high to engage with its housing. Having taken it back to the dealership (Stratstone non BMW) the car has been "repaired" under their warranty and the only fix was to remove the catch (done at the nearest BMW dealership). This has clearly not solved the problem. After reading some of the other posts I realise that this has happened to other guys but they have also had the hydraulic pump changed at the same time. The comment from the garage who actually fixed it was that they were surprised that the pump had not yet failed on this car as they are prone to it due to water ingress. I have spoken to another BMW garage who told me that the technical service bulletin they have says that the pump should be changed at the same time as the catch. They wont give it to me as they are not allowed to give out bulletins to customers. Does anyone know if this is true about the pump needing changing, or where I might find the full details of this bulletin as all the ones I have found only give a brief summary and I cant find one relating to this problem.

If anyone else has had a similar problem please let me know how you got on. I understand that the roof may never fold flush but if the pump should be changed then I want it doing now as its only got a small amount of warranty remaining.

Can't help you, but I did have the problem with the roof not seating correcting this past summer. Found the bolts on the catch are screwed up and need to be replaced. Never did, but now I am replacing the whole frame. Nothing to do with the catch, though.
