Roof Mysteriously healed!

Hi Everyone !

I have been the proud owner of a 2004 E85 for 7 months now and I'm completely in love.

Around November time my roof completely died on me. No mattered what I pressed I could not hear anything trying to lower the roof. I accepted this loss and I was ready for the investment. Out of nowhere I tried it again yesterday and lord behold she's healed! roof came down and back up again like nothing happened :o I guess its still worth someone having a look at it but has this ever happened to anyone? Also, does anyone know where I could get it checked out around Kent area?

Thanks!

did you have the parcel shelf up then at some point lower it without realising this affected the roof? Think Ross at RBM is your most local roof expert

It does sound like a micro-sensor trigger in the boot, worth checking to see if there it is being pressed when the parcel shelf (where the roof folds away) is down.

thanks for the replies ! I had no idea the parcel shelf affected the roof? :o does that mean in certain position of the parcel shelf the roof does not respond?

Thanks for the info :)

Yup, when it's up it doesn't leave room for the roof to fold into.
There's a microswitch which detects that and stops it moving. Make sure both the twist handles are rotated to move the parcel shelf to its lowest position.

Wow so much for my miracle story ! There was me thinking I had a magical Z4. I'll keep an eye on it because I am not entirely sure if that was the main problem. Regardless thanks for the reply !

Hopefully you've found the issue  . If you haven't already done it get the roof motor relocated to the boot. Mine packed up after 10 days of ownership & was totally wet through. Never had an issue since moving it to the boot.

It may well be the case that you have a magical Z4, I am going to keep believing until you tell me otherwise.
