looks like mine gave up the ghost today, it's been growling a bit for the last few days, but today struggled going up & down and now doesn't even move. The latches still lock and unlock but then nothing, you can hear the relay click but no sound from the motor.

Oh well looks like either roof out myself, or take it to the guy in wallsall, that's if there are any motors left nowadays..... :headbang:

Changed the roof motor myself yesterday, don't know what all the fuss is about, took it steady, and now roof working fine.
The old one was soaked but even though I bought new sound deadening and housing, I could have dried it out and refitted saving about £60...
Sealed the new housing and made sure drain hole was clear.. £328 all in.
Two things to watch for, in Shipkillers guide it says you cant get the wiring connectors mixed up, but the motor cables and the heated rear window connectors, both fit each other, I know I tried it..
Oh and the new pump is stamped with numbers for the hoses, and these are marked back to front. Ignore the markings on the new pump and put the hoses on the same way as they came off the old unit.... or you will be taking it out again.....

Incidentally, removed the old motor from the pump and managed to kick-start it, cleaned it up and filled it with WD40, hasn't missed a beat in either direction since, so I have a spare complete assembly.
So if you are thinking of buying a Z4 and hear horror stories about the roof motors, don't let that put you off, I could have had it fitted for another £140, a service can cost more than this repair.....

Roof was out in an hour and a half, another hour and a bit changing pump and about 2 hours refitting roof, I could do it again in about 3.5 hours now I know what i'm doing,
then a hour playing with the old pump..

good effort- i see that u now have heated m sport seats- how hard was the chage over? I have m sports and wondered if u have found an easy way of hetaing thrm or did u cange seats altogether.

I bought the car with Msport seats, that was one of my must haves, I paid someone to fit an aftermarket kit though, cost another £475 but worth it in my opinion, I dont have airbag issues, seat mat issues, bypass modules etc like some that have swapped seats from newer models have experienced.
One of the best mods now its cold out, makes so much difference to having the roof down......TBH I wish I had fitted them myself after watching the guy do it seemed easy to do....DIY kits are about £200 for the two seats....

That's quite quick to fit the roof, take it your good at stuff like this then? Or is shipkillers guide easy to do? Did you do it by yourself?

Spent 25 years repairing industrial and coal-face machinery, hydraulic presses, pneumatics electrical etc, etc, the last 10 years managing people who do it on my behalf now.
Also as I know how long a job should take, those guys don't give me any sh*t.
I had to get my girlfriend to give me a lift getting the roof in and out of the car, and she is only 7 stone wet through, other than that all on my own.
as far as getting the roof in, I lifted it about halfway using a 12v supply, we carried it to the car and placed it in, I lined up the front 4 torx bolts and tightened, then bolted the hoop in, pushed down on the fronts to snap it into the brackets, then cabled up, tried it (after wedging the microswitch closed), before feeding the roof seal around the bodywork and refitting the shelf and interior trim.... simples.
Shipkiller's guides are great, but remember the wiring connectors so you don't mix them up..
