Roof Motor...yes another thread

I do not have the technical expertise to know where they are, but search and there is a link to Piston Heads. There are two drains which drain (funny that) water from the base of the roof (at the back). If these get blocked, water rises and covers the unsealed motor.

Clock is ticking...what will they say..

omg that is madness, should be the simplest thing in the world if it is such a problem!

Am ready to take them to court to fight for our rights!

You tell 'em... you want to fight someone, fight me :brucelee:

Actually, one tactic is to get a form for the small claims court, fill it out and send them a copy with a deadline after which if you don't have satisfaction you will file. Pretty sure you don't need legal representation but it will cost them to get someone along from BMW legal which will really cost them - if they don't show it will almost certainly go in your favour.

maybe only if they say no, not sure I'd want to go into the dealer for a routine service next time if I'd just threatened them with court action.

I am a lawyer which helps!

Well...I have heard...

 they are going to fix it all for free under goodwill!!

Cannot tell you how happy that makes me

So, a cautionary tale, if you have a pre-facelift this is still under warranty or even a post, CLEAN YOUR DRAINS REGULARLY!!!

If you have the same problem as me and they refuse to pay, PM me, and by all means cite this as precedent.

Another example of Hexagon servicing coming through :)

Excellent work!

"I am a lawyer which helps!"... ... you could have mentioned that before I started handing out legal advice! (I work with computers)

Just wanted to ask where the drain holes are that should be kept clear :?

Hope you got sorted AJZ4London - to your satisfaction.

Profile at the left says 'Newbie" - posting says 'clueless'. Missed a page when reading the thread.

..........and careful with that stick :)

Don't forget Rusty - it is NOT covered under the warranty...you may have to argue.

IMO it should be cleaned by the dealer for free every time the car goes in for a service or for any fault inspection, maybe we should start a protest!

Welcome Frosty!

Interesting, when I took out the warranty it was specifically one of the questions I asked, and was told as long as it is not down to wear and tear, it was covered!! I will ring them tomorrow to clarify this as I am still in my 14 day period to get out.

If you have a comprehensive warranty then the roof motor should be covered. Doorand roof seals were mentioned as not being covered but I can't remember anything about the roof mechanism being exempt. I will have to read the small print!

motor is covered but I guess it is supposedly your "neglect" that the drainage tubes are blocked which damages the motor.

Do not see how they can argue that if they do not tell you to clear them (that I know of) but you will need to check! Be interested to see what you find out, please let us know
