Roof Motor Wanted

Hi,

I seem to have suffered the dreaded roof motor problem on my 2003 2.5 Roadster so I am looking for a motor if anyone has one.

It's rather annoying that BMW have a known problem causing this issue yet all us owners are left with a big bill due to their bad design.... :x

Thanks,
Marco

think i saw some posts - cant remember were..but they were selling for £500

are you sure yours is dead? i thought mine was but it was the switches in the boot...

Clean it out, trust me! The motor will be fine, it will just be waterlogged. I've done mine and a friends and both were the same. The electrodes are at the bottom of the housing which gets soaked - my guess is its not working due to the water shorting it out. Its worth while doing the following also:

1. Take the motor off the hydraulic system (make sure you keep the opening upright so not to spill the fluid out!).
2. Spray inside the motor housing with WD40 to displace the water
3. Submerge in a small tub filled with diesel and manually turn motor.
4. Remove and shake out diesel. Repeat 3-4 several times.
5. Lube the motor with a di-electric grease or oil suitable for motors.
6. Test with a 12V power supply source. The motor has some torque so hold it steady.

When re-assembled, clean and silicone the motor box.

Also 100% make sure your drains are clear! Otherwise it will happen again.

Thanks for the replies. I would attempt it myself...if I had the tools and the know-how! ;-)

For £600.00 you can have a new one fitted by someone Marco.
Where in Hampshire are you as this would involve a trip to Camberley.

Thanks for the reply. Camberley is close to me, could you give me more details please? Do you know someone who has used them before? Thanks...

Take note Bowser, this is the second one I've referred today. I should be on commission :D

Listen to EdButler mate he is spot on. If you want to attempt the job this weekend i would be happy to walk you through what you need to do by phone, i mean you could call me while you are doing it and i will answer straight away and help you.

If i was nearer to you i would gladly give you a hand.

And all it would cost you is your time. The job is not hard at all and could save you £600.

Thank you everyone..... and thanks so much for the offer Tug, it's a shame I've only just seen it now on Monday morning! :(

Might sound like a silly question but I'm guessing you need to completely remove the roof to get to the motor to clean it out?

Yes mate, it has to come out. There is a thread showing a german guy pulling it out in the boot! Dont know how he has done it but you have to take your zed to him, in Germany to have him do it.

Anyway Marco the offer still stands. If you are going to give it a go yourself Pm me and i will give you my number.

Cheers, tug.
