Roof Motor - UK BMW £ Contribution?

Hi all.
Has anyone managed to secure any financial contribution from UK BMW regarding failed hood motors out of warranty?

I have a 2004 with a mere 35k miles and my hood motor has just failed. It seems that this is a common problem and possibly due to a design fault with the rain drainage system? I've not had the motor out yet, but it has pretty much all but stopped working now. It does just work if you help it out and the roof moves freely with the motor dis-engaged...

We are pretty good BMW customers, so was thinking of writing to BMW UK to see if they can help out. Has anyone had any luck? And does anyone have any contact details for my complaint/grovel letter?

Thanks,
Simon

Im giving my local garage a call on Tuesday morning regarding this very issue. I will let you know how it goes if you can wait that long.

Lets just say, I've been told there is a chance depending on how generous BMW UK are feeling on that day.

If not I'll be booking it in and demanding a 3 series coupe/convertible for the day as I want my money's worth.

Just to point out that this only affects pre-facelift vehicles. They "fixed" the issue in the facelift version.

Motor is completely plastic wrapped in post facelift so no longer subjected to water damage.

What a shame they didn't think of that earlier! Do you know if they replace the motor in the pre-facelift models with a plastic wrapped one?

I managed to get BMW to pay for the parts, and I am paying for the labour....

Still bloody expensive though!
